THings you suspect (but can't prove) were viral marketing

For me, it’s that Wedding Entrance Dance Video that took the internet by storm just a few months ago. It uses Chris Brown’s “Forever,” and did so at a time when Brown’s brutal beating of his celebrity girlfriend was just beginning to fade from the public consciousness. I truly believe that this video was staged and used the song to attempt to reconceptualize Brown’s music in a sweet and endearing context.

Which would be amazingly postmodern and meta, as the original song was itself a sneaky viral marketing vehicle for Wrigley’s gum.

Sometime back the newspaper started predicting which toy would be the most popular Christmas item. I think this has become a self fulfilling prophecy since everybody and there cousin will go out and buy one so that they can sell it on EBay for ten times what it’s worth.
