I have always wondered about Tiger Balm. Huh.
Not precisely pickled, but Sarica Gourmet Gold Garlic is just heaven. It’s whole cloves of garlic in virgin olive oil, packed in big chunky jars. Scares the shit out of your guests, but once you cajole them into trying it, they will all want their own jar.
Max Factor Featherweight Lipfinity lipcolors. Unlike the original Lipfinity, this does not feel like nail polish on your lips. It’s really lightweight, slightly sheer and stays on for an entire day. Comes in two parts: color in a sponge-applicator tube and a separate clear lipgloss. Also in the cosmetic line: 2000 Calorie waterproof mascara.
I’m digging on a newly-discovered band: Eddie From Ohio. Their latest CD is called “This Is Me” and it’s folksy-bluegrassy-poppy and very listenable.
The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is a miracle!! I love it!
This is not exactly new, I think they started in 1999, IIRC. But Body for Life. IMnsHO, it’s THE best, most effective, user friendly, easiest to stick to, fat loss program on the planet.
PERIOD.
Almost as convenient is the Xyliss garlic press, which handles unpeeled garlic - it squeezes out the flesh, leaving the peel behind. I was skeptical, but it really works.
The new rosemary and olive oil Triscuits. Man, those things are tasty. I’ve nearly demolished the box. And the crackers, too.

I recommend the Double Berry Martini. This is so good, and so dangerous because you can’t taste the alcohol. It’s like Kool-aid!
Those are great! My wife’s family’s importing company brings those in by the thousands. I believe they are the ones that supply them to Dean and Delucca. My wife brings some home for me whenever there are cases damaged. I should have asked her to get me some for this weekend.
Mrs. Plant speaks like that when refering to her “youth”.
Are you from New York, or are you refering to a musical instrument?
Down comforters.
If you’re the type of person who is always cold, these are a godsend during the winter months. Get the good kind with the high thread count and lots of loft.
Electric blankets are pretty cool too.
If you can find one, I would reccomend a goose down mattress. My Grandparents had one in a guest bedroom. Most comfortable sleep that I’ve ever had.
On a side note, I can also reccomend maraschino cherrys. Why? Not only are they great to eat, but if you save the juice that’s in the glass jar, you can add it to regular coke or pepsi and make a superior cherry coke or pepsi. Exactly to your tastes in fact.
Stihl chainsaws. The best. Husquavarna is pretty good. But the Stihl can’t be beat. ALWAYS starts, always ready to get the job done. Easy to maintain too.
Skil magnesium wormdrive circular saws. Wormdrive is the way to go if you do any amount of cutting.
My favorite book serieses (sp?) are Discworld and The Dark Tower .
The Dark Tower is by Stephen King. They’re some of the few fantasy books I’ve read that felt real. They’re not cookie-cutter Middle Earth type books. They take place in our time, in our universe and a few others. They’re a mix between fantasy, sci-fi, and a touch of horror.
Discworld is by Terry Pratchett. They do to fantasy what Douglas Adams did to science fiction. They’re very funny and the humor is supported by some great plot and characters. It’s hard not to end up liking Rincewind.
I tried to find a picture of this gizmo, but basically it’s an insert section that goes onto the clothes dryer vent. It has a little door that opens and closes, and a screened filter to trap lint.
It channels the air from the dryer outside in summer, or back into the house during the winter. I love the thing because it puts all that lovely moist heated air back into the house during the winter when it’s so dry inside.
For garlic fans, the Genius garlic cutter rocks. It’s not very pricey, it comes apart easily for cleaning and it produces perfect, tiny-dice garlic every time without mashing the cloves to smithereens. I got mine at a garlic store (don’t remember where, but everything in it had to with garlic: bliss!) but it was just the cutter. I love this thing.

I’d like to recommend the Dyson vacuum cleaner. We just got ours this afternoon, and I have to say I’m mighty impressed! I’ve emptied it out four times already, and the place didn’t look that nasty before I started. Mainly what it picked up was cat hair. I swear we could have knitted a new cat with what it sucked up! So if you need a really good vacuum, and you have the means, go get a Dyson.
I just finished a book by Andris Groff, aka Andy Grove. He’s the head/CEO/CFO whatever he is now of Intel. “Swimming Across”.
I had no idea he was born in Budapest just before WWII, survived thru it, and escaped from Hungary and came to the US. He had $20 in his pocket when he got to NY. Very good story and book.
I fifteenth the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
It’s great for cleaning the scrudge off the bottom of those cursed molded plastic showers-ya know-the stuff that NOTHING gets off.
Check the website-they used to mail a free one out-no spam or hassles either.
Baby stuff:
- If you do the evil Wallyworld, the Parents Choice newborn clothlike wipes are super-cheap and just as plush as those astronomical name brand baby wipes.
- Just like the commercial says, Luvs diapers do hold off leaks better than the other name brands. (Use a size larger than you need if there are still night leaks)
- Yobaby brand yogurt. Full-fat yogurt for older babies. SOOO good.
Laundry:
Arm & Hammer perfume free, dye free powder. I stopped having the nighttime itchies after switching to this stuff.
Food:
Smart Balance spread. Tastes good-great for toast etc.
Morton’s Hot Salt, for you spice lovers.
Peel and stick heating pads. I’ve only used the lower belly ones for menstrual cramps (and why couldn’t they have invented these 30 years ago when I used to be totally disabled by cramps the first day of my period?), but understand the backache ones are really nice too.
I recommend Tivo as well. Tivo, not just any DVR. I like Tivo picks and the interface is really great.
Godiva liqueur. I have never had a chocolate liqueur that I was not dissappointed in before this. It is awsome.
Microplane graters. Grating cheese is a breeze! I grated cheese and butter together yesterday to make ham rolls. Zesting lemons is fun!
A 2.5 birds beak knife made of stainless steel not high carbon steel. It is the one knife you need for peeling or carving garnishes.
Any of the Ethshar series by Lawrence Watt-Evans. Wonderful light fantasy.
