Gah. How many times are they going to do that thread?
This post cracked me up for its sheer social cluelessness:
If he’s regularly killing conversations when sports come up, then why the hell doesn’t he TRY to respond in a non-conversation-killing way? One does not have to actually watch sports to do so!
Sample conversations:
Coworker: Who’s your favorite football team?
My stock answer: I have a soft spot for the Steelers. I used to live in Pittsburgh.
*Truth: i don’t actually have a favorite football team, but I am sentimental about the 'burgh, so this is close enough. Besides, very few people seem to dislike the Steelers. *
Coworker: Did you see the hockey game last night?
My stock answer: No. what happened?
Coworker: The Devils were down by two, but then Hingle McCringleberry scored a 3-point touchdown in the bottom of the ninth!
Truth: obviously my coworker wants to talk about the game, so why not humor him a little? Besides, sometimes something remarkable DOES happen!
See? It’s not hard!
