…almost exclusively for piano stuff - downloading audiofiles and sheet music.
I’ll also upload midifiles from the computer to the digital piano to see if using the bells and whistles of the piano actually speeds up the learning process as the mfr claims.
I have a dsl connection right next to it, so there’s no problem there (right?), and I’d be using house current almost all the time.
I can use a thumb drive with this laptop, right?
What do you computer mavens think of this, please? I really value your inputs, so I hope you respond
Looks like a decent entry-level system. You might want to think about upgrading the optical drive to a DVD writer (although if all you want to do is burn CDs then what you have is fine). Re: DSL and power; yes, you can plug your DSL modem into the LAN port on the back, or in some cases a USB port - both of which you have. Looks good!
Well… this one’s OK but is not all that spectacular. Toshiba & other manufs are dumping all the old Celeron units. The Tecra is the business class unit and other than the HDD shock feature and the XP Pro it’s more or less the same as the Satellite units that are closing out around $ 450 after rebate with a CD writer-DVD reader- 60 gig HD and a Celeron processor.
The retail store Satellite units that are around $ 700 (after rebate) have the new Intel Solo processor and CD+DVD writers & 80 gig HDs and IMO offer more bang for the buck.
I just bought a A105-4074, which is basically the same as the unit Astro mentioned but with a faster processor and bigger HD. My only disappointment is that the speakers aren’t very loud and are tinnier than comparable HP units. Reviewers seem to agree that something in the HP 5000 series with comparable specs has much better sound due to it’s Altec-Lansing speakers. You may pay just a little more or not depending on rebates, etc. Since music is you main use for the machine, I figure the sound system may be important to you.
