sigh Since all the cool kids are doing these threads…
Munich.
The ones that are fun to pronounce
Dusseldorf, Ulm, Frankenmuth (even though it’s in Michigan)
Hamburg , from the Beatles early days
Nuremburg (Nürnberg), where I was born; Mannheim, where I was stationed in the late 1970s.
My brother lived in Manheim for a while.
Merkenich.
Bonn, probably because it was the capital of West Germany before reunification.
Bonn, also because it’s the only place I’ve been to on international business.
Munich came to me first. Second was Magdeburg, mostly because the Sack of Magdeburg (1631) is a pivotable part of the Ring of Fire series (1632 series - Wikipedia) by Eric Flint, which is one of my favorite series of all time.
Munich.
Bonn.
Off the top of my head…
Heidelburg, Frankfurt, Garmish, Stuttgart
Schweinfurt.
It’s mostly on my mind because tomorrow’s the 72nd anniversary of “Black Thursday”- the 8th Air Force’s extremely costly second raid on the ball-bearing plants of Schweinfurt (Oct 14, 1943), and a mission my grandfather and his bomber were on.
Stuttgart. Because Porsche.
And even now part of me flies over Dresden at angels one five.
OK, I’m thinking of it.
Now what?
Koln (home of Kolsch)
Freudenstadt
Bonn. I do not know why that bubbled to the top of the list.
Dortmund…black and yellow black and yellow…
