Koln was my fisrt thought, which in retrospect is really odd because last week I was frequently watching videos and reading reports from the Essen Spiel (HUGE board game convention)
Speaking of board games, I’ve played Thurn and Taxis enough that I should be able to name 5 cities without much thought. (though some of the cities aren’t in Germany)
Darmstadt. We have an office there and there’s a clock at work showing the time there. Also that place where Quasimodem was born but I can’t remember the name.
Yeah, it’s now Kaliningrad, and it’s in a bit of Russia that’s not contiguous with the bulk of Russia, as a result of the breakup of the USSR.
Are any of the seven “bridges of Konigsburg” that Euler made famous still standing, I wonder. If so, as a graph theorist, I really ought to go there someday.
Augsburg (about an hour from Munich), because that’s where my best friend’s family lives, and we’ve been there a few times to visit. We’ve adopted them as family now - the grandparents are Oma and Opa to us, which I love. By the way, Bavarians really do wear dirndl and lederhosen for special occasions like birthday parties, and have singalongs to an accordion (at least this crowd does!). So fun. Another connection to Augsburg is that my dad was stationed there (Army) when I was born. I had some photos from that time, and my friend’s parents took me to the places where my dad had been, which meant a lot to me.
Stuttgart, mainly because I know a young woman who plays pro volleyball there, and she’s a Facebook addict and I see pictures of her playing every day.
Also Ulm, because I know a young guy who plays pro basketball there.
