Think The Feds Need to Know About This?

A buddy of mine works for a printing company and he told me the other day that in the past couple of months they’ve had groups of people who appear to be from the Middle East wanting to have high quality copies made of official US Government documents, many of which have notices on the bottom that they are not to be duplicated in any manner. In each case, the people have had large numbers of these documents, with multiple names (i.e. seven versions of document A, each one bearing a different name), and in one instance the names of the documents didn’t match the gender of the people requesting the photocopies (Unless its common for Middle Eastern women to be named Mohammed.). The last time this happened, the guy requesting the copies became enraged when told he couldn’t get them copied. He started screaming about racism and other things and demanded that they copy the documents. My friend calmly offered to call the FBI and inquire if it was legal for them to copy the documents, even if it stated clearly on them that it was prohibited by law to do so (which these did say that). At this point, the guy left.

I’m thinking that the FBI might be just a little bit interested in knowing about this, but my buddy’s unsure. So, should he call 'em, and if he doesn’t, should I?

Hell, yes. Doesn’t matter if they’re Arab looking or not - the rest of the story is enough to set off alarm bells.

At first, I thought this would be like the thread dealing with the guy who lived in the apartment (with no kitchen! gasp!) who didn’t talk to anyone.

After reading it, that is clearly not the case. I echo the sentiments of the other poster: I would definitely call the Feds.

And it doesn’t matter if they’re Arab or even foreign… have we forgotten Timothy McVeigh and Oklahoma City so soon?

At the very least you’re looking at copyright fraud, which, by the way, is a crime.

So tell your buddy to make that phone call, alright?

My wife is a printer, a former gov’t printer, in fact. She tells me that this is a very serious issue. Address your complaint to the Secret Service, or to the FBI, and Hell No, K2dave it does not matter what their ethnicity is, it’s copying prohibited docs, and the investigatory agency can make any determination beyond that.

Why, exactly? Would you be less worried if a Caucasian person made the same request?

The alarm bells you hear going off are there in case you are blind and can’t see the red flags and flashing lights which tell you that this is fishier than last weeks tuna surprise.

What you do is take the documents, go to the back room and call the local cops. The cops can detain them and turn them over the feds.

Are you telling me that if some 8 yrs old kids were doing this you would be equally concerned? If you just mean the act of copying the docs - OK but if you forgot we had a little incident about 9 months ago where Arabs took by force a few of our planes and attacked our country killing thousands of our people (IIRC most of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia). We are currently at war with some of these people.

If these people are innocent then they are just stupid of trying to pull such a stunt.

If you call (it should be when) the FBI or whatever agency, I’m sure they will be more suspicious when you mention arabs.

Actually, k2dave I would be just as concerned if it were 8 year olds doing it.

‘Hey kid, want to make $20?’ Using kids as mules is not difficult. Actions are what needs to be profiled, terrorists come in all colors.
