Thinking about changing my name. Whaddya think?

I love Ogrealso. If you had to change, I can suggest Trogdor or StrongBad. I love those guys.

I can’t believe no one has suggested…Shrek !

I love Ogre. Please don’t change it.

I presume they spell it:

Cerviase
or
Servaise?

Anyway I seem to have fallen onto a name that fits your excellent criteria all by accident. People usually c&p, and it doesn’t come up anywhere else. The only problem - and it’s not a problem - becomes when people shorten it. But I love the nicknames people came up with it (Mika, meeks) and so can deal.

What about slightly modifying it to Friendly Ogre?

Or perhaps Like An Onion?

Sailboat

I’ve seen it without the terminal E, I’ve seen it without the I before the S, and when Survivor was in its first season, the initial C was regularly changed to a G. Among others.

My real-life name is equally annoying with respect to accurate representation.

Don’t change! I hate seeing new names with a kazillion posts and trying to figure out who they used to be.

I’m gonna have to go against the flow of this thread and say that Exquisite Floppily Doppily is a fantastic name! Please choose that one!

I will always be totally confused and never remember You are You. You’re always very nice and non-ogre like! You’re the anti-ogre! And it’s not a bad thing. I thought troublemakr should have stayed with her old name; it was obvious she was no troublemaker, and now I have to smack myself all the time to realize she is now Alice the goon.

So, stay Ogre. You’re a pussycat in our hearts.

Nah, come on. I don’t approve of it when people take themselves soooooo seriously that they have to change a message-board handle to “better reflect who they are.”

Yes, the “who the heck is this new guy with 5,000 posts, and who was he before” factor is a major sticking point (Alice the Goon is trublmakr? I’ll be damned.) I guess the major reason I wanted to change is that, for me, the name Ogre is a nickname that dates from a time in my life that really has nothing at all to do with me now. It was an old football nickname, but I haven’t been a football player, in hell, 17 years? I really don’t know why it traipsed across my brain when I was registering, but there you have it. Random synapses firing, I suppose.

On the other hand, there are certainly things I like about it. It’s brief, distinctive, and to the point. Plus, I am more like Sweetums (thanks, WhyNot!) than like a raging beast.

But I have gotten my share of dubious posts when in a heated debate…especially from those posters who tend to think I chose the name because I want to project the image of some big, macho, ass-kickin’ dude.

That said, I’ve also come to think the name isn’t really all that creative, and y’know, I like to imagine that I’m a pretty creative, imaginative guy. I’m really super jealous of cool names like Thudlow Boink (hilarious name,) or Quiddity Glomfuster or umop ap!sdn (awesome!) Beside names like those, Ogre seems kind of pedestrian.

BamaGuy is a little too…geographical. Plus, I’d be hung with the “Uh oh. Proud redneck comin’ through” label (even more than I already am.) I must say Ogry is very good. Subtle, yet funny. And if I were a sock-puppet sort, I’d register cuddlefuck in a heartbeat.

Oooooh. Did I ever post pics of the newest kitty, Clovis? I used to work out in the woods. One morning, I pulled up to my office, and this tiny, starving little flea-bitten pile of fur came scampering out of the trees. She jumped in my car when I opened the door, purring her little heart out. She’s healthy and older now, but her kidneys had almost failed, and when I took her to the vet, it took them three days to rehydrate her and get her kidneys working again. She was right on death’s door, and all she wanted to do was come home with me. What the heck could I do? The place where she came out of the woods was a site where archaeologists had unearthed an 11,000 year-old Clovis point a year or so before, so I had to memorialize her origins. Such a sweet, tolerant, easygoing kitty.

I suppose that’s true. It’s just a message board…but still, it’s kind of a part of who I am now, y’know.

Heh. Layers!

Alrighty! definitelynotawerewolf it is! :stuck_out_tongue:

But . . . but . . . you’re Ogre.

I can certainly understand that the name has past connotations for you that are now irrelevant and inaccurate. But for the rest of us, you’re Ogre on the Boards, and what you’re known for is what you’ve posted here, and how.

So if we get to vote (doubt it, why should we?), I vote no. Plus, I am crap-tacular at remembering changed names and the old biddy in me wants to shake my cane at people who change their names and confuse me.

Thanks, Jodi.

I’m not exactly sure what this means, but it sounds complimentary, so I’ll just say thanks.

No.

Now.

Didn’t you used to have some numbers on your name? 36? The only other one I can recall is Eutychus55. There’s just something about numbers.

Stick with Ogre. I like it. Besides, it reminds me of one of my favorite characters in Xanth* (please don’t spit on me) Smash, the ogre.

Smash cool. Smash kind of smart sometime. Smash nice. Protect weak tiny female. Smash good guy.

*I haven’t actually read a Xanth book since I was about sixteen. Really. Stop sneering.

Well, I do have a high eye queue.

Just so you don’t feel all alone, Sleel.

And just as soon as I figure out where to park my kitty pics, I’ll post 'em.

Admittedly I have not read the entire thread but I think you said it best with Total Pussycat. You’d even be TP for short! How cool is that?

Wow. I’m impressed. Yeah, I used to be twickster47, which is the default when twickster isn’t available. Can’t remember now why I started with the default here.
