My Dad got the BGE. Used like twice. Takes forever to heat up. Get the doxie!!!
I used to run a standard Weber kettle. I wanted to upgrade recently and did a fair amount of research and went with the Weber Summit Kamado over the BGE or the Kamado Joe. Very happy with it and am using it multiple times a week to make a range of stuff.

I do not own a BGE or have even used a BGE but I will say one thing I like to do is watch videos on cooking and the BGE has figured in more than a few. My takeway is the BGE is very expensive compared to most grills. It also has a learning curve to use. Maintenance is important as well (which can be said for most things but the more it is worth the more important it is to put the work in). Also, apparently they sell a lot of accessories and those are expensive too so once in you may be in for more.
Of course, a doxie is not free (can be expensive) and owning a dog requires a lot of work too but I think that is something @Beckdawrek has a lot of experience with.
Not sure how many dogs-of-a-wrek currently exist and would another one be worthwhile? Compare that to how much BBQ/smoking is done there as well as how committed and diligent do you think the person getting the BGE will do to master it? Is this meant for competition?
I guess the last thing to say is the BGE is quite expensive and there are much less expensive alternatives to be found that could do the same job barring expertise with the BGE.
I vote doxie but that’s just me. I loooove BBQ but I still do not do it much (not surprising since I live in a hi-rise but honestly I just do not eat it much. I love it but it is a treat and not a daily staple).

Once the novelty has worn off, a BGE won’t chew the shit out of your shoes if you leave it alone and neglected, nor will it bark, whine, or pee on the floor. OTOH, a BGE won’t greet you at the door, wagging it’s tail and happy to see you.
A “new” puppy? Is there any other kind?

A big green egg will never make you happy, no matter how big. A puppy will! A puppy is unique and irreplaceable and will love you. You can grill on anything. Adopt the dachshuund. Case closed!

As someone who loves dogs Dachshunds are much better when they are in someone else’s house.
Nah. Puppies are juvenile dogs, certainly less than a year or so. I was making a funny, but since you insist… Eschew obfuscation, and all. I understand informal terms of endearment. “I love you Baby!” is not suggesting that my wife is a newborn, etc.
My parents would disagree. There were a bit disconsolate when the fire marshal said they (and many other neighbors) couldn’t park and use theirs in the concrete area in front of their condo anymore. Never underestimate the joy of grilled meat.
They also don’t come with vet bills or elimination issues. I like doxies, but they fall firmly into the dogs-I-like-for-others-but-would-never-own-myself category. Much like, say, huskies of all types. I wouldn’t own one mainly because of the potential spinal issues but also some are a bit temperamentally snappish with strangers.
Never heard of a Big Green Egg until now. Looks dumb. Get the dog.
You might get lucky (like I did) and get the World’s Most Perfect Dachshund Puppy. Loves every person he encounters, has never growled or nipped, easy to toilet train, plays well with other doggies (goes to Doggy Day-Care once a week) and Rooster is just an all-round joy to be with.
On the other hand…

I got to go see the pups. Not exactly what I expected.
They did not appear to be dachshund. The mother was.
I would’ve taken them all anyway. I felt sorry for the condition they were in.
I thought of giving the lady money for puppy food. The mother was desperate to wean them and I saw no bag of food. But I resisted.
I sent my son over to take her a big bag of food this morning.
He reports she was thankful.
