The Tokyo raid was planned in the dining room of Bacon’s resort. AFAIR there was a scene in the movie of that event. However, when I saw the movie the other night, the scene was not there. Is the scene a figment of my aging imagination? Or, has it been lost from some copies of the film?
There is another movie made around the same time that I often conflate with Thirty Seconds over Tokyo called Purple Heart. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen either so I can’t tell you if either one had the dining room scene.
The Purple Heart with Dana Andrews is about the “war crimes” trial the Japanese held for the airmen they captured after the Doolittle Raid. I haven’t seen it in decades, but it’s one of my all-time favorites. I suppose it’s possible there was such a scene in it, but I would expect Thirty Seconds over Tokyo to be a more likely choice. I can see Spencer Tracey as Jimmy Doolittle presiding over it.
I think ole David Thomas would provide more, gravitas?
