"This American Life" on Showtime

Am I the only one who’s watching this?

I’ve missed at least one episode, but what I’ve seen has been pretty good. They’ve captured the feel of the radio show pretty well; the show’s visual character, the way it’s filmed and edited, is roughly analogous to the original audio.

And the stories are just as interesting, for the most part. The short one about the photographer who was criticized for shooting the drowning woman and then went into portraiture was sort of weak, but in that same episode, the one about the kid who says he doesn’t believe in love (and concludes by telling his future 25-year-old self that “I’ll see you in hell!”) was great.

Anyone else?

I love the radio show and I’ve been meaning to catch it on ON Demand, but I haven’t yet. I’m happy to hear your good review though.

I even liked this one, despite the ponderousness of it all. Primarily because I have a good friend who is a photojournalist and it caused me to reflect a moment on the subject ( which is what TAL ultimately should do ). Also they were very dramatic photos.

But all in all I agree with your take - it has been uniformly strong. I thought the “peezilla” incident in particular was a near-perfect opener :D. The only thing I can’t decide on is the length of the program. Too short? I’m leaning that way. Or would an hour of this on TV ( as opposed to radio ) be too much?
