Okay, so two idiot newbies in the past month or so isn’t what I’d call an infestation, but for fuck’s sake, why the hell are you coming here asking the paying members if it’s worth paying for a membership? If you’ve lurked here for any amount of time you should already know the answer to that question. If you don’t, then the answer is “no.” If you have to post about it – especially if you feel the need to pit it – then it’s obvious the only reason you’re posing the question is to try and give some legitemacy to the airing of your grievances about the board in the guise of eliciting membership opinion from its members. It is also obvious that in asking the question you are only looking to confirm your reasons not to join by picking out all the negative responses you know a question like that is guaranteed to get – especially because confirmation bias just pegs you as hopelessly ignorant.
If you’re only looking to see what you want to see as a reason to leave, then please, fuck off, because you contribute nothing. Save your energy for the next cashier you upset when you yell at her for not honoring your $0.30 off coupon that expired two days ago.
If you think it’s worthwhile for you to join, you’ve probably joined already, or are about to, and don’t need our opinion to ostensibly push you over the edge. Welcome aboard. Mind the dogpile.
It’s not the people who post those OPs that are the problem, it’s the fucking idiots that feed them by responding to the OPs that are the problem. If those OPs sunk off the page with no replies, how many more of them do you think we’d ever see?
If they sunk off the forum with no replies we’d still get more of them down the road 'cos they just don’t realize what they’re in for. Not that responding is any better – frankly I don’t think it makes a difference whether anyone responds to them or not 'cos the OP will use everyone’s ignoring him as his reason not to join. I doubt anything short of wine and roses will convince that sort to pony up, and with the attitude they invariably possess they’re lucky if they get a can of Moxie and a wedge of limburger.
Newbies like that are little better than trolls. They’re just looking for reasons to hate this place.
Mindfield: Nice Op. I know at least one you speak of and I just kept reporting his posts as a Troll/Sock alert. Same with the follow up Op. Thankfully both were shut down. A lot of people wasted time* arguing with the nitwit. I would love to know how complaints they actually got on that user.

If they’re posting to ask if they should pay or not, then no; if you have to ask, fuggeddaboudit. It’s not a choice between world peace and feeding the hungry here. Whether it’s worth coughing up $15 for this place should become pretty self-evident by the time your guest period is up, if not before. If it’s not obvious by then, it never will be, so don’t waste your last few guest days whining about it. At least have the decency to expire quietly*.
That was the impetus for my post. It’s not so much the time “wasted” arguing with the idiots, it’s the temerity of the idiots to start the thread in the first place. Their motive for doing so is clear (unless there’s some genuine questions they have, though I can’t imagine what could be asked whose answers aren’t already out in plain sight). Everything else is just food for the OP’s ego.
