This has to be the dumbest button I've seen in years.

I’m watching Airline on A&E. At LAX (I wasn’t paying close attention, but occasionally looking at the screen) when I thought I heard she had dropped off her boyfriend and was hoping after he got through security he’d come back for a last good-bye. (If anyone else saw this, please let me know what the situation was.)

Anyway, after hearing this (I think) I looked at the screen to make sure she wasn’t expected this. As she’s weeping I saw it. I saw the damn button.

“Minnesotans against being shot.”

:smack:

There could be but two meanings. 1.) Natural selection will take care of her and her offspring for not wanting a shot of any kind to build immunity to disease. 2.) There are so many people in MN (and I assume other states) that feel a need to “associate” to further their idea of not wanting to be shot. As opposed to the unspoken desire of the rest to want to be shot.

I’m tentatively going with #2.
What other trite, meaningless “political” statements have you seen worn in non-organized public areas?

Are you sure they’re talking about vaccination shots and not gunshots?

My first reaction would have been that it was a sarcastic comment about morons who think a hunting license is a permit to wander through woods bordering on residential areas and farms, get completely wasted, and shoot at cows, dogs, farmers or anything that moves.

That’s probably colored by growing up around New England woods, where I heard those complaints every season.

Sublight, please re-read not only the 2[sup]nd[/sup] part of my guess, but also the saying on the button.

“Minnesotans against being shot.”

NOT

“Minnesotans against shooting.”
Seems clear the implication. The first of the two guesses was tongue-in-cheek.

Well, I re-read your #2 choice several times before posting, and it’s still not making a whole lot of sense.

Anyway, yes, I’m aware of what the button says, which is why I read it as a sarcastic comment on careless hunters.

OK! Fine. I admit #2 was sarcastic as well.

I’m trying to think of how many people are not against being shot. Either you’re trying to whoosh me or you won’t understand the stupidity of the statement. It’s late and I’ve been sober for 3 days. I’ll pick up some Stoli tomorrow and try to see what you’re trying to say.

Sort of like mothers against drunk drivers?

I googled the name of the group. They’re a pro gun control group. They protested some law passed in Minnesota that made it easier to get a carry permit.

Pretty much. How many mothers are* for* drunk drivers. Except MADD actually has done some major things to help traffic enforcement. Shrill often, but they got the drunk driving to the forefront of the nations awareness of the problem.

mike1dog, I know they have a website. But the damn slogan is so friggin trite I had to vent. Kudos to verifying a quote in an OP though. You verify before commenting. Commendable.
