This is driving me NUTS! (computer text question)

I noticed when putting up a post here or on some Word documents that if I go back and erase my text and retype . . the cursor automatically types over the next word!

For example, and this will elicit some jokes I’m sure , I originally type “see Sot run.”

Reralizing my typo, I go back, and try and type a “p” in Sot, but the damn “p” goes where the o was, spelling “Spt”! I either have to retype the damn thing, or have to start a new paragraph at “ot”, type in the “p” after “S”, and then drag the “ot” back.

What causes this . . and how do I stop it!

Hit your insert key!!!

It has to do with your insert key on the keyboard. If you press it again it should clear up your problem.

Expanding a bit:

Hitting the insert key toggles on and off the aptly called insert/replace function (at least that’s what I am apt to call it – YMMV). If you are using MS Word, there should be a few three letter boxes at the bottom of the screen- “REC”, “TRK”, “EXT” and the relevant “OVR”. Whether or not OVR is lit up tells you which mode (insert or overwrite) the program is in at the moment, so there is no need to go recklessly experimenting on Spot.

I do that to my co-workers about once a year. It usually takes a couple days before they figure it out.
