“Friday Night at 7:00 p.m. step out your door, stop your car, or step out of your establishment and light a candle. We will show the world that Americans are strong and united together against terrorism. Please IM this to as many people as you can we need to reach everyone across the united states as quickly as posible. We need press to cover this we need the world to see”
A friend of mine IMed me that tonight, and said that his friend in NYC sent it to him. He said they are trying to get it around. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to pass it out to you guys. If it does, then I apologize.

My heart goes out to everyone in NYC/DC, including my family there. I know I was scared when I was unable to get a hold of my aunt who works very close to the WTC. I also pray for the families and friends of those that have not been identified. My heart swells each time I drive down the streets and see all the flags lined up in the medians, as well as all the marquee’s that say “God Bless America” I am truly proud to be an American.
In Birmingham, Alabama, where I live, they had announcements on the radio (I didn’t see anything in email) about there being a candlelight vigil at someplace tomorrow at five o’clock. The Governor and a few other people (I guess considered noteworthy) are going to be there, and presumably make a few speeches regarding the New York tragedy.
Unfortunately, I have to work until five,(and probably later than that) so I won’t be able to make it.
I guess I’ll just say a quick prayer (like I’ve been prone to doing since Tuesday morning) for all the victims and their families at five tomorrow.
All ready for it. I might be here on the SDMB–it’s been a haven and corner of sanity during this–but there’ll be a few minute gap while I light the votive candles in my windows and on the porches.
It’s lovely and appropriate symbolism: light against darkness.
I doubt this will be feasible in this area (Southwest Florida) tomorrow, seeing as we’ll be under the gun from Tropical Storm Gabrielle. But we’ll see what can be done.
I’m glad to see that everyone is willing to do something. I also bought some little flags from walmart and i’m going to roll them up and fold it to make it into a pin to put on my shirt tomorrow.

I know this is off this specific topic, but I couldn’t remember the original thread I wanted to put it in, but for those who disputed about what action should be taken, here is a link that states what options the government is weighing out right now. http://msnbc.com/news/627086_asp.htm?0ql=chp

I live in Lil ol’ Panama City, Florida, and I was so proud to see how our city came together in unity. Even our school was mourning together. My school has the biggest population of Muslims out of all 4 of the high schools, and I think we are doing a good job of letting them know that we do not think they are the enemy. We even have a club called I.S.L.A.M (Interested Students Learning About Muslims) that I am in, (i’m not a Muslim) and we are putting together a video to air at school that will inform the students and faculty of what Islam really is. Hopefully we will succeed in fighting ignorance.
If you’re serious about getting people to do this, I think it would be helpful if you specified which time zone’s 7:00 you’ll be using (eastern, central, mountain, etc.). Just a suggestion.
