Broomstick: I disagree that the guy was disruptive. This seems to be an issue we can’t agree on, so we’ll have to agree to disagree.

Well, OK, I can agree to disagree.

Maybe we pilots don’t think jokes about drunk pilots are funny because of the high penalities for even a first offense. The laws of man are pretty harsh in that regards, but what happens when the laws of physics punishes someone not quite up to the job is horrific.

Unfortunately, given the politics right now, no joke can be treated as a joke. You make that sort of joke, the pilots and flight crew are pulled and tested (yeah, they’ll be REAL friendly towards you at that point) and you’ll inconvenience a lot of people. Sorry, that’s the way it is. I’ll agree it’s to the point of being ridiculous. But that gets back to the argument about just how effective this sort of “security” really is. Want to discuss that?

I think a lot of what passes for security right now is horseshit. Including all the hoops that flight crew had to jump through. I agree, absolutely, a simple breathalyzer should be readily available to settle such questions. Too much technology involved for a problem that really only needs a simple solution.
