this is me-- with only a little BS [long]

I had been a long time lurker, only somewhat recent “member”. I’m about 1/2 way thru my initial ‘membership’ period, realizing people don’t know ME! [How could you not know me? I mean, you know, it’s ME! ]

So, for the truly bored, here I am.

I’m male.

Late 40’s

Married ---- very happily and contentedly.

Overweight, but can sometimes look good if I dress right
Don’t often care to dress right (my wife loves me unconditionally, same as I love her)

I like to -look- at women, but would never harm relationship with wife by doing anything other than look.
Can’t understand how any hetero man would ever claim not to look. The female form is wonderful, beautiful, art. And HOT!!!

A co-worker of mine is gay. I consider him a friend. I miss him, a lot, when either of us are on vacation. I always look forward to talking with him.

I drink Maker’s Mark, mixed with Fresca or Diet Squirt. Having too much right now.

I have a 17 y.o. son that irritates the helll out of me.
I have a 17 y.o. son that is exactly like me… except more advanced than I was.

Agnostic, but raised catholic. Including jesuit high school and some jesuit college.

B.A. degree. Majored in Philosophy, current job and job for last 20+ years is working with computers.

Other than wife, I have only 1 close friend. Did I mention my wife is my everything?

The mother in law lives with us. She has some form of dementia. Irritating and yet rewarding to be around her. OK, more irritating more often as time goes by.
For awhile, until he died, the father in law also lived with us (m-i-l and f-i-l were separated, that was interesting).

I’m the only child in town to take care of my mother. She’s in assisted living … for now. She likely has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Or schizophrenia or both. My mother is just a real mean nasty nasty mean woman.

I generally like comedy movies. Anything by Woody Allen. I think he is funny even when he’s “not being funny”.

Father died 10+ years ago of pancreatic cancer. Never really knew him, he was always working.

Guilty pleasure of StarGate SG-1.
Full out admit to anyone that I like Family Guy, Simpsons and the “Adult Swim” line-up. Don’t know why I keep my fanaticism toward SG-1 hidden. Geek factor?

Registered republican. Wish more other republicans recognized most of current crop in office are a bunch of liars and scum.

Prefer dogs. BIG dogs. Practical enough to know cats are great pets too. Currently have 2 semi-feral rescued cats. They are too nice. The one cat they replaced was mean, onery, bitey and talkative. I miss that cat. [ Now dead cat musta been a Japanese bobtail. If you like an independent spirit in a cat, I highly recommend a japanese bobtail.]

Oh, forgot, me white. Plain old ordinary white guy. Married to a hispanic woman though, so that makes me ethnic via … nevermind.

The sight of my own blood doesn’t bother me a bit. The sight of anyone else’s blood makes me quesy.

I like to question premises. A red flag is anytime anyone says anything like “Everyone knows that…”

Wife’s family is truly fascinating. Had been exclusively hispanic (mexican) until this generation. Wife and one brother married whiteys, 2 sisters married blacks. Only one of wife’s sib’s married another hispanic. I think that’s really interesting.

Only mentioned and noticed ethnicity and race after many years of marriage. Wife and I just had 24 year anniversary. I do think I am more “attracted” to that whole dark haired, flashing brown eyed, ruby lipped ethnicity thing… but whether or not her sibs married same… or not… or whatever… only recently came to surface thought.

My alias, my moniker. Meanoldman. It’s what I aspire to be. What I hope to be. Picture me yelling at the neighbor kids to stay off my lawn… meanwhile the Mrs. is handing them out cookies at the back door, saying “See ya tomorrow.”.

Family medical history sez I’ll be dead of heart attack or cancer within 10 years, easy. I’d like to be meanoldman, but sigh doubt I’ll make it.

I do know how to take care of a lawn. A LAWN. Not a yard. At least what makes a lawn deep green and thick and beautiful in the midwest, in hard clay soil.

Welcome! Don’t step on the cats. Guard your sheep. Would you care for a margarita?

Do me a favor if you have not tried it yet…

Don’t mix that Maker’s with anything, fill about 1/4 of a “rocks glass” with it them put in several ice cubes. Let it sit a while…let it sit until some of the ice starts to melt and give it a small taste.

Let more ice melt and taste it again. Try adding cubes/MM to try various dilution points.

Try that a few times to see if you can kick that awful habit of mixing Kentucky Straight Bourbon with funky liquids.

Meanoldman…meanoldman…Hey, that sounds like something to aspire to, may I join your club?

Yes, welcome. As Snakescatlady sez, try not to step on the cats, some of them are quite small and they still think feet are just toys, so please watch out.

Enjoy the margaritas, pizza rolls are coming out of the oven in a bit. Wipe your feet when you come in, don’t leave dirty dishes in the sink and don’t piss off the crazy people.

Not that anyone here is crazy or anything…just saying. Ya’ know?

Somewhat of a bump, somewhat of a reply.

I -like- my Maker’s Mark with a bit of sour mix (Fresca or Diet Squirt passing as a sour mix). I can taste the diff between using Maker’s and anything else. Letting the ice cubes melt and melt and melt … isn’t that the same as a whiskey and water? I can drink straight whiskey… in shots… but prefer not to.

I used to be a beer snob too. Still cringe at the idea of being forced to drink some budmillcoors somewhere. If I’m drinking a beer, I prefer a porter. Will heartily accept a bock or double bock… Summit Great Northern Porter or Shiner Bock. I don’t know if the web site still says this or not… but the Summit brewery used to list a “limited distribution in the Omaha, Nebraska area” . That was me. I was buying cases for myself and a brother in Kentucky. I have another brother in dismal drainage Neb, who never accepted a great porter (or any porter) as good beverage.

The cats we have now… if one were to step on them, you’d hardly notice. They’d meow, just a little, and go sulk in a corner. The cat we had before… if you mistakenly stepped on him in the middle of the night, you’d withdraw your bloody stump of a foot. Such a change are these two purring fuzzy accepting lumps.

And, sure, I have a preference for dogs… BIG dogs. But the two cats we have now seem to like me more than any other member of the household. Then again, I give them cat treats, fill their food, scoop their litter and scritch their ears. Why wouldn’t they like me?

Hi, there–

What’s Maker’s Mark? Is it a whiskey? Rye whiskey? Scotch whiskey? Bourbon?

I’ve never ever had bourbon.

I like to drink vodka, mixed with unsweetened cranberry juice and diet Sprite.

I wish we had a dog.

Pleased to meetcha.

Maker’s Mark is bourbon. Good bourbon. Very good bourbon. I don’t like to mix it with anything. I prefer it neat, but it’s good with ice as well.

I’ve been drinking Chilibeso beer lately from the Great Basin Brewing Company in Reno. It’s a jalapeno flavored beer, and it’s like nothing I’ve ever had before. I became a beer snob when I used to play football with two brewers at different breweries in Baltimore. I’m a big fan of the Great Basin Brewery.

I have two dogs. One’s a black dog, and the other’s a white dog. They’re both mixed enough that those are the most accurate descriptions I can come up with. The black dog has some chow in her, because she’s got the shoulders and the purple tongue. The white dog has some American Eskimo. They’ve both got some lab, and I think the black one has some German Shepherd too.

I’ve been here for a while, but I rarely post much. Nice to meet you, folks.

It’s Bourbon *and *whiskey, but all whiskey is not Bourbon…now bourbon is not scotch and scotch is not bourbon but both are whiskey or whisky. Simple.

The thing with higher end booze is that it tastes better and costs more…(duh right?). If you are paying more for the flavor profile that MM spends ridiculous amounts of time shuffling barrels around the racks to achieve, and you are keen to taste then washing it out with various mixers is counterintuitive. Once you start adding flavored mixers like Fresca it’s going to become very difficult to pick your $20+ bourbon out of a line up with lesser spirits. People will say they can do it but I’ve done a lot of blind taste test “shoot outs” and would challenge anybody that has not done it to try 3-4 similar profiled bourbons in a blind taste test mixed with Fresca to pick the MM.

Neat drinks would be the true representation of the bourbon in question but sometimes they might be rather “hot” and small amounts of water seem to open up the flavor profile and add to the enjoyment of the drink. Ice is a great tool because it melts slowly allows you to taste the drink at various delusion points as the flavor profile is changing.

I’m not saying mixing is bad I love mixed drinks. I love Margaritas but I will not use my $40 tequila to make them because they only taste $0.50 better than $15 tequila in all the mix, but it tastes $400 better straight.

Perhaps a bartender will find this thread…

At the end of the day taste is taste, pour Coke Zero over Booker’s if you like it and keep on rockin in the free world.
