At work the other day I saw a children’s picture book called This Is Not My Hat. It’s about a small fish who steals a hat from a bigger fish. Considering that I’m supposed to be an adult, I really liked it. Even entirely sober (I was at work, remember) I found the art and the words hilarious and charming, in a black sort of way. The pictures are like a dark version of Eric Carle, although I’m not a picture book aficionado, so the comparison may be naive. The book also won the Caldecott Medal, which is a thing, apparently. There are a few pictures on the Amazon link above, but Google Images has plenty more.
Now I just need to find some kids to read it to…
Has anyone else seen this book? Has anyone tested it on real children?
