Allow me to hijack for a second here…I have heard every joke in the world about Gore claiming he invented the inernet. I have never seen/read/heard where he was speaking and how the hell he managed to say that. Anyone got a link to this speech?
We now return to your regularly scheduled MPSIMS thread.
“My Accountz Reeceevable Posse don’t call me Tha Troubleshoota for nothin’. Suckas think I be chillin’, but I gots to represent at all times, 'cuz ain’t nobody else reeceeve accountz right but ME.” --Herbert Kornfeld
hi-res screen savers are pretty damn cool. And it’s only been a few years since “flying windows” was SOTA. Hell, I work with computers 60 hours a day, and I still find little things like screensavers to be way neat.
we don’t know the context or the tone of voice used.
he was visiting “a computing class in a senior citizens center.” As often as seniors are intimidated by computers, expressign fascination with a simple screen saver might well have been the perfect thing to do. I mean, he’s hardly going to go out of his way to alienate the people he’s visiting, especially when they’re learning a subject that’s dificult for a lot of people.
I apologize in advance for encouraging the hijacking of threads.
Apparently, Gore said that he sponsored and/or supported legislation that supported and/or encouraged the spread of the internet and/or the world wide web. Or something like that. Therefore, he claimed that he had taken the initiative.
He overstated the case, certainly–but he never actually said that he invented the internet.
The problem was twofold:
He did overstate his influence
He was already known for exaggerating his own achievements when he made that statement, so his critics were ready to pounce.
Back to the original question–
It is not too surprising that our popular president was wowed by a screen saver. After all, look at how many people are, as we speak, voting for a guy who thinks the Prime Minister of Canada is made out of french fries and cottage cheese!
I am taking CIS courses right now, but out of curiosity I am also trying to figure out how to draw using C++ and openGL or DirectDraw (just 2-D for now) to a 32-bit window. (-This question also gets asked often by beginners on game programming forums-) I can’t follow how to put up a plain text window with “Hello World” in it, much less draw a damn picture. I have DirectX SDK 6.1 and it has a bunch of 3-D examples, but I can’t see any correlation to what the program does, and the code that generates it. I have scanned numerous books at the bookstores, and haven’t found anything that I could follow. If you know any quick easy way, I’d sure like to hear about it. - MC

I sent the first time, and waited, and waited, and waited, about 3 minutes, and stopped, and checked the topic, and my post wasn’t there, so I sent it again. -And it was there twice. - MC

The question, grasshopper, is not whether the Lakers can be kept down, but whether you’re gonna be able to keep thyself “down” while watching the Laker girls around thy girlfriend.
But otherwise, hell NO them Lakers is unstoppamable!
You are already one with the Thread Hackers Guild continuum, may your joining be testament to others.
