It’s pretty awesome. It’s a fake stock exchange. They give you fake money called Hollywood Dollars, and you can buy virtual stocks in movies, actors and actresses, and music. The stocks go up and down and crap like a real stock exchange. You start with H$2,000,000 (in both, movies and music), and you take it from there. It’s easy to get a hang of, and it’s a fun way to blow off the summer. And yes, it’s entirely free.
I started this a few years ago, but then stopped for a long time. I just recently came back to it and rediscovered its coolness. Give it a shot, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Oh yeah, one last thing. When you’re signing up, it asks if someone refered you. You’d make me a happy person if you put “Pepsidave” in that spot, capitals count. Thanks.
My net worth:
Movies: H$5,860,407.29 (Woo!)
Music: H$1,466,456.51 (Aww)
If you sign up, post your username here. I’d like to see how many people actually did it.
Looks to be a cool way to spend some time when I should be working. Wonder if I can set up a Markowitz minimum variance portfolio with Kid Rock, J Lo, and the new Tom Cruise movie.
By the way, Yo La Tengo (aka Pepsidave), what do ya win for referring the most people?
I probably should mention that the reason I want your username is because there is something called a league. You put someone’s username in and can see how they’re doing. It shows your real life name, so if you really don’t want someone to see that, don’t post your hsx username.
I used to go on the HSX in the early days (before they added music and when the stocks were much cheaper) but they expanded their site to the extent that my computer couldn’t take it and would crash constantly. I go once a year now to see what kind of interest I’m collecting…
Just dropped by (took forever, naturally). Movies $6.1M + Cash $4.1M = Net Worth $10.3M. Ranking 37239. Maybe I’ll buy something in a month or two…
Same story for me, ArchiveGuy. I just logged in for the first time in years probably, and I have $9.1M cash and zero investments. All the movies I owned came out I guess.
Thanks for the link… I signed up (my sn is orion007). I like games like this I used to play on a site called Main Exchange. You’d buy stocks with fake money and all that, but the stocks were for real companies and their prices would rise and fall with the real stock market. I think they shut it down though.
I signed up about a year ago I think
I’m not too good
I’m always losing money
I’m better at the music one, but not by much
my user name there is zephonith
I was on it for awhile some years back. Actually made the leaders for a month. Back then, stocks on bad movies often fell below the actual box office; buying them were a sure-fire winner. You could make good money on the bombs.
Then I realized the entire setup was depressing. The emphasis on box office is ruining moviemaking. No one cares about quality, just how much money a film made. I quit.
