I saw a video the other day where the author (Scott Galloway perhaps) suggested that one of the most distressing things in society is having your kids not do as well as you by age 30 or so. In general. I’m sure there are plenty of super-wealthy and celebrities whose kids are of regular ability. I imagine it’s also fairly distressing to be a young person not doing as well as your parents.
But basically you have all these people who for decades have been doing all the things they were told to do and are struggling with jobs and careers, finding partners, buying homes, raising kids, and all what I grew up thinking as “normal people shit”. That makes people anxious, angry, confused, and resentful.
So the theory goes, these people just want change. So they have turned to the most disruptive source of change they can find. And really by “change” what they want is a change back to “normalcy”. So they are going to gravitate towards more conservative right leaning leaders.
Complete agreement with this, and with msmith below…I think one could chart this whole mess back by following Rush Limbaughs audience numbers. Very cunning man…

Morons and simpletons. I have a number of friends and family who support Trump. They are objectively good people but they don’t really put together coherent thoughts on complex topics nor are they particularly introspective or willing to question. The best way I can describe is they get a feeling or thought in their head and that becomes reality for them.
Trump realized he can tap into these people’s fears and their association of the Democrats as everything that embodies those fears. The problem with Trump is that he’s a terrible person and his ideas don’t make any sense. But these people who follow him assume don’t really understand it and think “at least he’s doing something” to prevent whatever horror they think the Democrats are about to unleash.
