Not quite Strainger. If she is a GS rated civilian as she claims, and works in a VA office, then her hours ARE 8-5, Mon through Fri. I have been in a VA office when 5 o’clock rolls around and everyone leaves. They tell you, “come back in the morning”.
So… unless Diane is a volunteer somewhere, she does have a set working schedule. Would like to hear from some of the other vets on here how many times they’ve been told to come back the next day, etc. That’s why they won’t even give you an appointment after 3 pm…they have to get everyone out by 5 pm.
OH I C. Well, that explains everything. Time killer?? No wonder when I have an appointment at the hospital, my records are not at the doctor’s office, I have to go hunt them down myself and carry them up there. No wonder when I make an appt at the VA Administrator to review my records, they have to put everything back in the computer… AGAIN. No wonder when I call the 800# for the VA and get a person who is too busy to talk to me and I get put on hold for 30-45 minutes… must be you on the internet playing around.
Forgive me, after all I’m such a maniacal troll, but … and please do correct me if I’m under a mistaken conception here… but the Internet access you are privy to at WORK is to do WORK for the VA/Government is it not? Surely they didn’t mean you could use your government job to surf around just anywhere you please???..
OMG, I need to go to my local VA and see how many of them know about this great deal!! Damm, next time my doctor puts her critique of my visit in her computer… I’m going to make sure and let her know that she can get on the INTERNET when she doesnt have any patients. I’m sure she’ll be thrilled about that…especially since she just put in a recommendation to the VA to have email addresses for everyone in the VAMC and elsewhere… so we can email them instead of having to make appointments and such when all we have is a slight cold or a question, or just need to give them an update. DAMM, what a revolutionary idea that they are already allowed on the internet and just didnt know it.
pldennison: Could be. But there were some big bases there, and I was tucked away at a tiny Army communications center on my own little corner of the island. I was 6 months TAD (=TDY for those in other services) to Torii Station. I didn’t get out much to the bigger installations.
Okinawa had special significance to Marines. It seemed like every Marine cycled through there at one time or another, especially in the 70s when tours of duty were shorter and it was natural to change bases more often. There was a running joke in the Marines to the effect that sooner or later every Marine had to do hard time on the “The Rock.” But the other services had a big presence there as well.
No problem, Diane. The VA treated me great when I needed help. I really owe you guys, and I’m happy for the opportunity to put in some good words about the VA and the people who work there. It’s sad that a few loudmouth vets have to make the VA out as the enemy.

You were only eligible for VEAP (want to give me permission to tell everyone how many of your 45.00 hours you actually used? PLEASE?!?!?) and when VEAP was discontinued, you were not eligible to transfer over to Chapter 30 because of your GENERAL discharge.

There are several borderline risque avatars posted on my site, Bhudda. But unless you are a member of a VP community , they aren’t much use to anyone. They are 102x116 pixels, which isn’t very large for displaying anywhere.
If you’re interested, go to http://www.excite.com and check out VP… lot more personal typing to a ‘face’, while sittin on the web page of your choice. They have forums for every state, age group, religious denomination, and yep… even VETERANS. You can go in as a ‘mug’ (java-script) and look around, although you can’t see any of the web sites or avatars or anything. However, you can converse with the people there. You just can’t hear the nasty gestures they’ll play for you, or see them kicking your mug avatar around the room and eventually out the door… lol…

Ok… so the letters I get no less than twice a year from the VA asking me when I want to use my benefits to further my education or train for a new job… are bogus??? Damm, wonder who the person is that has been screwing that up for the last 5 years? Maybe that explains why they keep putting those letters about my educational benefits in my medical records. It’s all just a major screwup by the VA. Well, I can rest easier now knowing my benefits didnt exist in the first place. I’ll make sure they correct that in my records next time I go to the VA.

Those letters you receive are for Vocational Rehabilition Benefits that are sent out a few time each year, you dumbshit, not the VA Montgomery Bill (Chapter 30). One would think a smart veteran such as yourself would know the difference.
