Add ‘hypocrisy’ to arrogance, ignorance, and greed.
It’s irresponsible when someone else does it (in this case, ‘everyone’ else), but when you and your junta do it, it’s ok?
I’m so exhausted from being so outraged at decisions of the people that are supposed to be running our country. And then I remember that some people actually voted for these fucks.
No, this is what makes America great: Everyone has the right to free speech.
You might make the argument that Bush and Cheney have more access to the bully pulpit than their detractors, but even that only goes so far. Many of those cited in the article have access to the media to voice their own opinions, and have done so.
I don’t have a problem with them using words like “irresponsible”, “reprehensible” or “playing politics”. Par for the course in Washington, IMHO. I hope that they don’t start accusing folks of being unpatriotic for their opinions (as occurred during the Vietnam War), but even if they do they have the right.
That said, I can’t say that I am sorry to see them on the defensive.
Plynck, I agree with everything up to the last sentence. I’m simply sorry that they have let it go on as long as they have. Ever since the 2000 elections, Bush has been the target of a constant stream of lies and vituperation, and just plain downright viciousness to an incredibly disgusting degree.
I’m sick of hearing it. Most people are. I imagine Bush and Cheney are, too. I applaud them for walking it right back to the venom-spewing assholes in Congress and the media. I hope they keep walking it back to them on a daily basis.
I guess one of the points I should have made is the irony involved in the statement - meaning that by him accusing others of ‘using their positions and playing politics’ he’s completely forgetting that that is exactly what he and his administration have done (and will continue to do as long as they can), and what almost every politician in this country, regardless of party, does. It’s not the free speech or the resources for making your thoughts public that bothers me, it’s the sheer balls (or stupidity) of the man for saying something and not even thinking about what he’s saying before he says it. Not that that’s anything new. You’d think his handlers would be more concerned about better controlling what words come out of their puppet’s mouth.
What Republican crack have you been smoking to suggest that Bush and Cheney have been sitting around, innocently taking the brow-beating for the past 5 years?
Bush and Cheney have been right there fighting, from accusing Democrats of flip-flopping to being obstructionists to growling “Go fuck yourself” on the Senate floor. Bush hasn’t missed a chance to take a jab at the Democrats since September 12, 2001. The only difference is that now, Bush can’t point to the scoreboard and say, “Well, the American public supports me so the Democrats are the ones outside of the mainstream.”
I’m sure Bush and Cheney don’t really think much about it. They know that the public will never get concerned enough to do anything about it and they can just continue doing what they’re doing - cherry-picking their evidence to justify the means and consequences for their own agendas.
The whole ‘sticks and stones’ thing.
As for every one else sick about hearing it, maybe they should have thought about that before they voted for and/or supported this administration and its policies.
Dude, Clothahump has tried just about every designer Republican drug they put out on the street. He’s a sad skinny shell of a man. Gollum throws him a piteous glance when he walks down the street past Clothahump.
I’ve encountered plenty of intelligent conservative opposition on this messageboard. I don’t recall any of it coming from this sad spin-junkie.
And I disagree with you on everything except you agreeing with me.
I don’t think that Bush has seen much of that venom until relatively recently. I think that this administration has had it their way for far too long, and are bristling at those who are now holding their feet to the fire for their actions.
But, my comment was that I really don’t have a problem with them stating their opinions as vocally as they like. It’s a free country. (Despite their own actions.) I think that their bite has lost a few teeth in the last few months. And, the longer they protest, the more it stays in the news. Count me as one who isn’t sick of hearing that criticism just yet.
born too late, I thought that your title for the threat was ironic; hence my response. I apologize if I misinterpreted.
Really? What sort of lies are you referring to? For that matter, can you tell us just one such of this “constant stream of lies” that you consider among the most egregious? Really, just one good example will do, and you surely must have many in mind for you to be upset so. So how 'bout it, big guy?
Or could it just possibly be that Bush has been subjected to a constant stream of criticism because it’s true?
We’re talking about the same Adminstration right? Because I seem to remember that Bush hasn’t exactly been sitting there innocently letting the mean old democrats and liberals beat up on him. Rather, he’s been shamelessly bringing up 9/11 and “Support Our troops” anytime someone disagrees with him on pretty much anything. They’ve also been implying, if not outright saying, that those who disagree are “cowardly” “Unpatriotic” “UnAmerican” “Emboldening the Enemy” “Want the terrorists to win” or “Don’t care about the war on terror”.
Bush still can’t admit he’s done anything wrong, or at least, not without saying everyone else was wrong too. Anything that’s gone wrong is a result of others not him. Quite telling from the leader of the “Party of Personal Responsibility”.
I just realized that my comment could be misconstrued as being in agreement with Clothahump. My point was that there are too many people in this country like him/her. Just look at the results of the last presidential election. The right wing of this country has successfully stuck the “anti-patriotism” label on everyone who disagrees with it. For this reason, the general media has treated Bush with kid gloves for far too long. Hey, business comes first! And after 9-11, the media operated under the fear of being perceived as unpatriotic if they criticized Bush. The right wing media took advantage of this and un-educated much of the country. A great example is how, all of a sudden, evolution is now “just a theory” when it was taught as fact 20 years ago when I was in 7th Grade. The right wing has set itself up for the future. The less educated the people are, the stronger the right wing becomes. When you can spoon feed your propaganda to the people, and the people simply accept it, you’re winning. Of course, in the long run, everybody loses.
“Democracy without education means hypocrisy without limitation; it means the degradation of statesmanship into politics; it means the expensive maintenance, in addition to the real ruling class, of a large parasitic class of politicians whose function it is to serve the rulers and deceive the ruled.” -Will Durant
Triple word score if Clothahump actually ever returns to this thread to enlighten us with specific examples of this constant and horrible string of disgusting lies.
Well, first there was the lie about how Bush said Iraq had all sorts of nuclear and chemical weapons. Bush never said those things, and when he did, he meant that they might have had them, which explains why Colin Powell went to the U.N. and asked them what they thought of our evidence, and they agreed, and when they didn’t agree, we had to invade to keep WMD’s out of the hands of terrorists, like Al Qaeda.
Then there was the filthy hippie liberal lie about how Bush tried to oppose the Department of Homeland Security before he voted for the Department of Homeland Security.
flip flop flip flop flip flop legislate from the bench legislate from the bench legislate from the bench post 9/11 world post 9/11 world post 9/11 world (I forgot to use those words in my rant but every good Republican speech has to use them at least thrice)
I appreciate the effort, but you’re going to have to work a lot harder than that if you want to regain the position of Our Stupidest Doper recently taken from you by New Iskander.
