This is why I hate computers

I’ll admit–when it comes to computer stuff, I’m mostly a dummy. I call the Geek Squad more than most would. I have little patience for things that pretend to be simple or intuitive but are actually neither. I have really simple needs and try not to get too ambitious about everything because I know the learning curve is so steep.

But sometime last night, I guess the world stopped rotating on its axis unless I got the new version of Flash. Nothing would play anymore. Fine.

Start here to download and upgrade. Click. Allow my computer to let Adobe change things? Click. Exit out of my browser? Click. Agree to terms & conditions? Click. Install? Click.

Watch numerous horizontal bars go from black to green. Some slowly, some fast. Fine. Waiting.

There is a button called Done (a misnomer if I ever heard one, I would soon realize). Click.

Reboot. And nothing has changed. The Flash I just installed, I still need, apparently.

So let’s go through it again, since I never rule out operator error in these situations. Click all the buttons again. Go through all the download bars again. The entire process. Done? I hope so.

Reboot. Nope. All I get are the same prompts. The same promises. The same protocols which I’ve been through before. I’m sure there is something I’m doing wrong. But while I may be a computer dummy, I’m not a dummy-dummy. I do read and have cognitive thinking skills.

But now I’m going to have to call Geek Squad. Or go to my IT guy on the sly. Because something that should be simple & intuitive was neither. And this wasn’t because I wanted to try something new and exciting. I just wanted to keep on living my simple online life, but “progress” intruded.

And that’s why I hate computers. :frowning:

I didn’t put this in the Pit because I didn’t want pit culture to complain about my lack of obscenities, and I didn’t put this in GQ because I’m not really asking for advice. I’m just frustrated and had a MPThingIMS. <sigh>

What’s your operating system? What web browser(s) do you have installed?

Assuming a Windows system try clearing the computer by uninstalling Flash. Following the directions after a reboot, verify the uninstall and try again.
