Anyone else have Firefox blocking Flash and the Flash update is failing.

Firefox is worthless POS. First it blocks Flash with some bullshit message that its not safe. I go to Adobe and download the update. It downloads but won’t run. Tried 14 times so far. The goddamn update just sits there for a minute or two until it gives up.

This fucking computer is just about to take a trip through a 2nd story window. I’m giving up on a flash update tonight. I just finally told the SOB to allow Flash to run no matter what. Fuck Firefox and their retarded warnings.

I’m just about fed up with this shit. Flash updated last week why in the hell is those buggers at Firefox pulling this shit?

If software is to blame, I blame Adobe 110% Of the time. Flash updates several times a week. I don’t know why this update is different, although can’t you tell it you understand the risks and just play?

If only there were any other browsers out there…

That’s what I did. Told Firefox to allow flash to run no matter what.

Go figure. After putting me through over an hour of downloading hell I get a pop up offering to update Flash. This time it ran fine.

I’m up to date. At least for a day or two until Adobe issues another update. I’ve given up trying to figure out WTH the deal is with all these updates. CCleaner, Flash, Java and of course Firefox, they all are constantly bitching and whining for an update.

It’s about time for a hard drive format and fresh install. That’s the best way to deal with a computer that’s acting flaky.

Just… wow. Good luck.

I just checked all my plug ins and they are up to date. Looks like I’m good now.

Apparently there was something about last weeks Flash update that Firefox flagged as dangerous. I was getting that message on any website that had a flash box. Like here on the SDMB.

I had a lot more patience for computer glitches when I was younger. I could work and work on the problems for hours. I’m tired of messing with them after 20 plus years. I have to walk away much quicker now and take a breather.

You’re an idiot.

yeah, I’m the only person who’s ever lost his shit over a stinking computer.

There’s always a hope someday these things will be no fuss and no bother. Plug them in and turn them on. But, that day has never arrived. It probably never will happen. They will always be a massive PITA that waste untold office hours in repairs and debugging.

I was having the same problem last week with Firefox and Flash. I swear, everything was up to date. It was vexing. Firefox bugged me to update and same with Flash, again, and now it’s okay. I can watch QI on YouTube and be happy.

My main home computer at the moment cost $35 brand new, uses Epiphany for a browser, and is nailed to the wall next to a TV. You tried 14 times to download a thing, and instead of just trying something else, came in here to bitch about it.

Whoops, not you, savannah.

I had the same problem as the OP. It’s the Firefox plug-in not allowing the update. I disabled the plug-in, then ran the update. It’s happened a couple times.

You might have to restart your browser. I can’t remember if that’s Flash or Java though. As I’m on 3-4 computers every day, I have to update those fuckers several times a week. Which one was it, Flash? that also doesn’t remember my settings, so I tell it to warn me about updates but not download automatically, and it defaults to autodownload unless I change it each install.

Thanks. I’ll try that next time.

I just updated Flash for Firefox and had no issues whatsoever.

Dunno why you are blaming Firefox. It’s Adobe’s product and Mozilla ( and the other browsers ) are bound to inform you of Flash vulnerabilities.
This hasn’t been a good year for Flash. A partial search at Zdnet shows there were new 0Day exploits around the 13th Jan; 22nd Jan; and now.

See also Ars:

As Flash 0day exploits reach new level of meanness, what are users to do?

One thing to do is to update Flash separately on all your browsers.
It’s slightly gratifying that after last year’s overblown shrieking about alleged dangers in Open Source, fanned by the usual suspects, and which fizzled out, Closed Source is still showing how safe and secure it is through obscurity.

I don’t use Flash. Or Gnash, or any of the substitutes. If it doesn’t just work on HTML5 then fuck it.
— Not that I’ve updated my own websites to eschew Flash yet: just reading the entirely inadequate searches on Google about conversion to HTML5 is exhausting. Partly because most of the information is outdated to around 2011. —

Firefox is the best browser that I’ve used. I’ve used practically every browser out there at work. The problem last night was Firefox was blocking Flash and even blocking the update from running. I understand the need to block an Add in with known vulnerabilities. But obviously the user needs to be able to update to fix the problem.

It didn’t occur to me that I needed to stop the add in entirely. I didn’t realize Firefox could block an installer downloaded on my hard drive. I guess in this case since the installer needed to update the add in that gave Firefox the opportunity to interfere.

Maybe it’s a bug but that’s not how it works for me. Click update, go to “Plugin Check & Updates” page, go to Adobe, uncheck McAfee because fuck that shit, download, install, confirm for the thousandth time that yes, I want to update when I want to update, restart Firefox (yes, I confirm that’s necessary), POW! Back to Youtube.

Firefox is the best browser that I’ve ever used.

Which is why I froze at version 24 ( by using GNU’s Icecat, still running the fine old extensions and modifications built up over a lifetime ) before it changed into Chrome.
I hate minimalists.

Sparked by this thread, this is precisely what I did last night. Seemed to work flawlessly, which is not always the case with Flash (or Firefox, for that matter - version 35 had some significant changes, esp in regards to Flash).
