Why does Flash lose it when I switch windows?

I use Flash with Firefox a lot - I watch streaming video, I play online games, and mostly these are done in Flash.

Lately, Flash has sucked big time – I keep getting screens that won’t load at all, that insist that I must be running some long-gone version of Flash “or later,” and worst of all, video content freezes if I click another tab - the sound keeps running, games keep running my time out, and every once in a while I’ll get an updated still frame. This happens even if content is paused while I navigate back and forth.

Is this Firefox, Flash, MacOS, or what? Any clue?

iMac or iPad?

Whoops, didn’t see this. MacBook Pro.

Very ordinary PC , windows 7 here and flash has sucked big time since its last “update”…do they not run these “updates” before releasing them to the world or what!

I have a machine running Linux whose flash quit working properly with the latest “update.” I found that YouTube, at least, has an HTML5 version of their website up and running which works, but not on all of their content. It’s hit and miss. Flash v11.2 will be the last update for Linux.

I’m eagerly awaiting the day for HTML5 to be implemented everywhere so the world can tell Adobe to go suck it.

Flash sucks. I’m not much a fan of Apple but Steve Jobs was absolutely correct with regards to his refusal to support flash.

I am using multiple versions of Linux and have encountered no problems with Flash other than a prompt to install the latest version, which proves to be a malicious attempt to install some other crap. I always have the most recent version by default.
I don’t do gaming but do watch a lot of YouTube and similar videos.
My grandson uses one of the machines for gaming and while there were problems when it was running Windows7 there are none at all when running either Ubuntu or Mint.

Browser is predominantly Firefox although others are also used without any problems.

Shockwave has been ruining my web browsing for awhile. My browser freezes and this pop up box says shockwave may be busy. What bugs me is all my tabs freeze because of that stinking shockwave crap.

Even worse it sometimes slows down scrolling. Scrolling will just drag and it drives me nuts. Scrolling TMZ i a nightmare. It always freezes up.

I ran the Firefox add in checker and updated everything. Didn’t help.

The OP mentioned flash video. I’ve had the image freeze and the sound keeps playing.

Flash is pretty bad these days.

Yeah, and if I was in charge of Adobe, the day he started trashing adobe would be the day Apple versions of all CS applications ceased to exist. Flash had its place for quite a while, but Flash has turned into a bug infested swamp.

That would also be the day you got fired from being in charge of Adobe for killing off roughly half your CS revenue.

I’ve noticed problems too. Flash will constantly crash with the exclamation point, and websites that use Flash advertisements will sometimes bring down the whole browser.

My main problem with HTML5 is that Youtube doesn’t support 480P using it.

It’s Flash plus the refusal of Apple to give them code to help them optimize the experience on Macs.

It’s also a good idea to wait a while before accepting a Flash update. They really don’t work out the bugs with the first release. I almost would say only get the next version after the one after it comes out–except that it’s harder to find the previous version.

Flash is in its end phase, now its pushing crap ware with its “update”, last throw of the dice and soon it will be gone… or staggering about as a software zombie.

and the day Apples rep for being a graphic design platform and half of their high end desktop sales died.

That would have been an important consideration 10-15 years ago, back when Adobe mattered, but not by the time the iPhone gave Flash the bird.

These days, Apple doesn’t need Adobe to tank their high end desktop sales, they’ve done a fine job of that all by themselves- the Mac Pro hasn’t seen a major update in almost 3 years. And since March of this year, Apple has completely discontinued selling the Mac Pro across all of Europe (though Tim Cook has promised it will return with the next update sometime this year).
