This Just In...Fox News Channel is bunch of lying fucks

Moved to the right. Yawn.

I’d be interested in a cite for that, if you can.

I do remember Fox doing something akin to what you describe:

SOURCE

This was the chart they showed. Take note of the X- and Y-axes, and the inconsistent periodicity of the data they purport to present:

Per the article’s author:

Here is a rough estimate of what that graph should have looked like:

Gulling the rubes. Same as it ever was …

I’m not sure that the backwards dating is the worst thing about that graph.

Holy crap, that is awful.

Obviously the backward dates immediately make it deliberately visually misleading, but as some of the comments also pointed out:

  • The dates aren’t evenly spaced
  • It’s just an opinion poll, but that’s not stated clearly
  • The error margins basically swamp whatever trend they’re supposed to have found
  • Of course the y axis doesn’t start at 0, but that one is the usual, vanilla cheat on cable news

Yeah, the rest is bad, but they’re not necessarily deliberately misleading, which is the only reason you’d do the dates like that.

Yep, agreed.

I would guess they planned to talk about a “surge in violent crime”, and even had a guest booked to talk about that, and then got desperate trying to find anything to support the premise.

I’m not sure the point of it.

If the numbers were in the right order, it would still see an uptick on the graph at the end.

Not as large and consistent a one implied by the backwards dating, but it would still be an uptick.

I’m personally more “offended” that they didn’t say what the graph was about. It’s not about violent crime, or number of those who have experienced violent crime, just a poll on how people feel about violent crime.

Anyway, I’m more willing to chalk this up to stupidity and a need for sensationalism than maliciously attempting to misinform viewers, as I generally do for the news channel of the pitting.

Well the reversed graph gives the impression of
a) a pattern of increase (two months in a row of increase)
b) the highest point being now, so a record high for the period being shown, instead of merely the third highest value out of 4

I just don’t see how this could happen by accident, it seems deliberately misleading to me.

And they’re using the John Hopkins tracker. Much less reliable than the Johns Hopkins tracker.

What confuses me is that the graphic teases the Biden plan to address what I’m being invited to infer is an actual surge in actual violent crime, but the graph itself is showing variations in how many people think violent crime is a big problem.

And, as Mijin points out , the margins of error swamp the actual variations.

Due respect: have you priced the singular vis-a-vis the plural recently ?

One could be forgiven for …

Just saw Hannitys promo…Hunter Biden, Portrait of a crack head. Normally, that would surprise me, such disregard for those who’ve had addictions. Not surprised at Fox anymore.

When is Hannity doing the addiction-themed show for Donald Jr?

Or Mr. Pillow.

It does amuse me that Republicans and Fox News continue to attack Hunter Biden, Kamala Harris and others because apparently they have nothing on Joe Biden himself. And it may also be that Biden himself is likeable, particularly by their viewers, so it doesn’t pay to criticize him.

I now think Tucker doesn’t believe all he spouts, its just to get a reaction. Had it on my TV; wasn’t listening but watching the titles. Starting with Lunatic leaders spiralling out of control, Policy run by crazy cat ladies with a pic of Pelosi, and Bad Boy Biden drives a big truck.

Whoa! Mind blown.

Meh, he seems savoury.

No mention yet of Trump’s conversation with Justice officials with the intention of mucking up the election results or of the DOJ ordering Treasury to turn over Donald’s tax returns. I figure it’s only a matter of time before they formulate a policy of decrying this breach of Executive Privilege.
