Haha, exactly what I was going to say. You can’t “control” a pandemic; if you did it wouldn’t be a pandemic anymore. The goal is to get it under control enough that it’s no longer a massive threat but at no point have we come close to that. That’s something we hope to achieve despite all of the resistance from the idiot crowd actively trying to sabotage those efforts.
Oh, that reporter was from CBS but, true to form, Faux’s headline is misleading.

That “many” would be their target audience.
Or in the case of a death, a cause would be stated as a fact only after issuance of an official statement from the relevant legal authority (e.g. the coroner in the locality in question).
Until then, it’s hearsay–what the family claims, or what the agent claims, etc.
ETA: that said, there are ways of writing a pre-official-statement headline that do NOT cast doubt on the reported cause. And ways that DO cast doubt. As we’ve seen.
They attempted control over medical supplies in order to extort states that didn’t vote for Trump.
But, I’m not sure what they want Biden to do here. The way to end this pandemic by “being in control” would be to round up all the anti-vaxxers and stick needles in their arms. To make and enforce mask mandates by force of law, not by asking the hostess at your local Chili’s to do so. To severely restrict travel and crowded events.
But, if Biden did any of these things, the very people who are making this pandemic worse and longer lasting are the very ones who would scream tyranny.
The vaccine is available to anyone who wants it. Proper PPE is available to anyone who wants it. People don’t need to go to concerts and parties and such. It’s not Biden’s fault, it’s not the fault of anyone who takes COVID seriously, it is entirely the fault of Fox and the ilk viewers who refuse to take even the most rudimentary of precautions to protect themselves or their community.
It’s like there is a group of lunatics stabbing themselves (and anyone nearby) with forks, and demanding that Biden do something to stop their bleeding. While simultaneously bleating about their freedom to stab themselves (and others) with forks. And medical experts have patiently explained to them that they are bleeding because of the fork holes in their bodies.
Back and forth they go between the two mutually exclusive thoughts, without a problem.
They want Biden to do things that victimize them; conservatives are always the real victims.
As long as they are victims, they can be outraged. As long as they are outraged, they will send money and/or votes to the people telling them why they should be outraged.
As long as they are victims they can “fight back”, usually by sending money and/or votes to the people who tell them what victims they are.
They want Biden to fail, quit the job and hand it over to Trump.
Fucker Carlson claims that you’re more likely to get COVID if you’re vaccinated:

If he’d said: “someone being vaccinated can make them more confident and less likely to wear a mask or distance” I’d be forced to agree, but that’s clearly not what he’s saying. Schmuck that he is-he was so close to giving good information.
He would still be wrong in many (most?) cases – the people I know who rushed to get the vaccine, and got their booster as soon as they could are also taking the most precautions. That is, almost everyone I know is boosted, and once again wearing masks in stores, being careful about gathering, requiring COVID tests before get-togethers.
But, yeah, if you change what he said, maybe he almost didn’t lie.
I suppose it’s true that the more people who get vaccinated, the more it’s likely that people who catch COVID will be vaccinated.
It’s not a particularly useful factoid, but it is at least closer to the truth than anything Carlson usually says.
I was watching FOX news and I noted that everyone was referring to China, every time, as *Communist* China.
It seemed strange to me because, of all the ways we could criticize the Chinese government, “Communist” is probably the weakest, as the country isn’t all that Communist at this point. But it suddenly struck me: they have to use the boogie word Communist because otherwise China would be the kind of authoritarian government that FOX currently praises.
I mean, Tucker Carlson went all the way to Hungary to praise Viktor Orban for hating the right people and his wonderful suppression of the courts and free press.
And they have no problem trying to paint Putin’s 100,000 troops on the border with Ukraine as obviously defensive. They’ve also “both sided” the jailing of Putin’s opponent, Navalny. No wonder Russian state media has started showing clips from FOX.
And, let’s face it, they hardly have a problem with China’s human rights abuses of its Muslim minority.
I think, for consistency’s sake, it makes more sense to refer to Communist Europe as the new boogieman (apart from Hungary). And meanwhile praise Xi Jinping as a strong Conservative leader, who is just trying to defend his country from Taiwan and Hong Kong.
“Communist” simply translates to “strongly resists being sodomized by US enterprise”.
They probably would have gone back to the '50s, and dusted off “Red China”, except that “red” has positive connotations for the right wing these days.
I’m not sure what the RW talking points are exactly, but going back to the 2020 campaign there was some effort to link Biden, and Hunter Biden, and all things bad about China – and especially the Chinese Communist Party, which they name-drop so many times that they now abbreviate it “CCP”.
Also, othering the word Communist by attaching it to China also helps with their lame attacks on Democrats, calling them communists.
In addition to being communists, China is where all of the jobs that paid high salaries and only required a high school diploma (if that) went. That is the other talking point.
Quite frankly, for a given country (meaning most of its people), the practical difference between establishment Communist Reds and Republican RW Reds is so vanishing that color is appropriate.
Actually, my conservative Facebook friends post about the Uighars - mostly that Biden isn’t doing enough and it shows he hates religion. I’m not 100% certain they know that the Uighars are Muslim, though.
Yes, and indeed while I hadn’t heard it in any mention of China on FOX, on googling, the FOX website has run negative stories about the uighur cultural genocide.
Most of them spin it to be about how Christians are or will be under threat.
But regardless, fair dos, I have to take back that cynical line.
