Not sure if anyone posted it already but the latest pro-Kremlin rhetoric is that dems are being hypocritical in helping Ukraine because they have completely opened the Southern US border (video).
I only mention it here because so many people on social media seem to have been bamboozled by…one of the stupidest arguments I’ve seen, even on FOX. So many MAGAts are being critical of Ukraine for…what exactly?
I mean, even if we agreed that the US has open borders now (based on nothing), and even if we agreed that soldiers are analogous to immigrants such that dems are being hypocrites…it still doesn’t rise to the level of being an argument against helping Ukraine. I mean, isn’t Russia the “Mexican rapists” in this analogy?
I assume you’re asking about the rationalization (whatever they come up with today) rather than the reason (they snubbed the Mango Messiah when he asked them to trump up accusations against Hunter Biden).
There’s more to it than that. People like Paul Manafort and Rudy Guiliani had, and probably still have, rather underhanded professional relationships with pro-Russian Ukrainian agents as well as Russian agents. Manafort spent years illegally lobbying and doing election work for pro-Russian Ukrainian clients….that’s why he got arrested.
There was a transcript released early last year of one of Rudy Guiliani’s phone calls to Zelensky. It didn’t get much attention because it didn’t contain any smoking guns about the Trump / Hunter Biden scandal.
In it, Guiliani told Zelensky he was surrounding himself with the wrong people, and by that I’m pretty sure he meant that Zelensky was aligning with pro-European forces rather than pro-Russian forces. Keeping Ukraine aligned with the West rather than Russia is major US foreign policy goal in the region, one Guiliani was looking to subvert.
But the Russians know how to use Trump as the unwitting asset that he is, which is why they threw Ukraine helped Hillary win! and We have Hunter Biden’s laptop!” into the mix.
I fully expect the right-wing narrative to evolve into “Ukraine’s not a real country, it should rightfully belong to Russia” sometime soon.
Agreed. I am of the opinion that there are more than a few paid Russian assets working for Fox News, and other right wing media outlets.
Ari Melber’s The Beat today focused on FOX news: that if you watch FOX you know less about world events than if you watched no news at all. And how we shouldn’t think of it as a news show at all, as it’s pure agenda-driven propaganda.
I’m sure that many here will roll their eyes at this; I mean we’ve gathered hundreds of examples of FOX talking absolute shite in this thread alone.
However, he is correct that the threat that FOX poses has been downplayed too much for too long. He played clips of Dems implying that FOX is a perfectly legitimate news organisation that just happens to have opposite views to MSNBC. I understand why they think it’s best to say that but we’re surely past the point where trying to look balanced or whatever is helpful.
And even many people who recognize how much nonsense is talked on that show still think of it as like a crazy uncle that you can just ignore.
But things are much more serious than that.
FOX is more like the crazy woman from the movie The Mist, who unfortunately, has a devout audience. Things have already gotten incredibly ugly, and all indications that the danger level of the misinformation, and the hold they have over their audience, is getting worse.

On the Hannity radio show yesterday it was remarked that Biden was overseeing the worst economy ever as President. This between mentions of his “cognitive decline” and trumped up (heh) poll numbers saying the majority of Americans believe he should have a “cognitive test” and results made public.

I mean, that’s just lies. I mean, even the delusional must agree that the economy was worse under Hoover and at the end of the W Bush administration. It was worse during the first COVID shutdown.
Courts have already said that Fox and it’s minions cannot be sued because everybody know that it’s a bunch of garbage and lies masquerading as news.

Biden should go on TV and say he took a cognitive test and “aced it”, then talk about how he was able to remember a string of words like “person man woman camera TV”. Watch Republican heads asplode.

I don’t know. I have a feeling that Fox News would have NO problem playing the clip of Biden and calling it proof that he’s crazy and senile, and their viewers nodding along—because those viewers either never saw the Trump “person man woman camera TV” clip, or have forgotten it.
And of course Fox News will never show it, now or at any other time.
When the Ukrainian crisis started, Fox had to choose between attacking Biden for being too hard on Russia, or attacking him for not being hard enough. They flipped a coin and the former won. It also jives with Ttump’s worldview, as a bonus.
I still think the kompromat kicked in. Fox News is dirty.
Also, they would love for Biden to bite on any bait they throw out, he would never hear the end of that. Then they would just change the rules of the challenge and ask him to do something else.
