This Just In...Fox News Channel is bunch of lying fucks

The construction “We acknowledge the Court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false” was obviously carefully crafted by their top wordsmith to confuse the reader into thinking that Dominion’s claims were false.

Right. To me, its really meaningless and only says, “We acknowledge the Court ruled that way”. Too bad Dominion didn’t insist on a clearer admission that Fox intentionally and repeatedly lied. But hey, they are the injured party, so its their call. C’mon SmartMatic!

Well so much for that. A non-admission and nothing changes. Switching from popcorn to whiskey…

Exactly! I have no idea how “the settlement reflects FOX’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards”. The settlement is about FOX being a lying piece of shit “news” organization. Maybe Dominion can return to court over their lying in their admission of guilt.

Edited to add: That article that I copied and pasted the quote from no longer has that section. Maybe their lawyers advised them against posting that and they are recrafting their statement.

Murrow wept.

It’s like the civil court version of an Alford Plea.

A lot changes for Dominion (or at least their corporate overlords). Dominion Voting Systems made $17.5 million in 2022. They just made 45x their annual revenue in one fell swoop. Not a shocker they’d take that to the bank.

And they still have more lawsuits pending. I’m not sure what Newsmax and OAN are going to do, but their pockets aren’t as deep as Fox.

And just like that, the Dominion settlement article is no longer on the Fox News main page which has well over 100 articles posted. Poof…it’s gone. They served their 60 minute sentence.

Still top of the page on the evil, evil CNN site, though.

And by certain, they mean every single one; by moving forward, they mean keep conning the gullible.

I like remembering that both the rector of the congregation and the bishop of the diocese called out Trump for coming onto the property to use the church as a backdrop.

Now that Fox News has publicly admitted to being a bunch of lying fucks, Perhaps this thread should be moved elsewhere?

News of the settlement is still absent from their page. Top story is

Elon Musk reveals to Tucker Carlson whether he’s seen evidence of alien life

He’s going to out his parents?

And now they can afford to finance their legal team to go hammer and tongs on all those lawsuits. Not to mention, Smartmatic must be looking forward gleefully to getting their hands on all the stuff that came out in Dominion’s discovery.

So now Dominion can sue them for that! This could go on forever!

The headline I saw for that one was “Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson discuss sexual attraction”.

To which I say, they’re adults, if they’re both consenting, they should just go for it.

Ugh! My psyche is damaged for life.

I wonder if a good part of Fox’s decision to settle was to free up Dominion to go after OAN and Newsmax, who have far less in assets than Fox. A similar level of damages awarded through settlement or trial verdict would likely drive these Fox competitors into bankruptcy.

In 2018, Staple Street Capital bought a 76.2% stake in Dominion for $38.3 million dollars. At the time, Dominion was thought to be worth about $80 million.

In the runup to the 2020 election, estimates put the market cap of Dominion at about $226 million.

Meaning: this is a TON of money for Dominion and Staple Street Capital.

As much as you and I would have loved for them to take this all the way, get a judgment for $1.6BN in compensatory and $14.4BN in punitive damages, and hopefully lay waste to Fox News, a) that path is lengthy, expensive, and uncertain to bear fruit, and b) this was about money for Dominion.

“The spreadsheet belies the humanity,” but the spreadsheet does reign supreme in Corporate America. Imputing noble aims to Dominion was a quixotic notion held by some.

I, for one, still smiled a big smile hearing about the $787.5BN check that FN has to write. And Smartmatic, Newsmax, OANN, and others are still in the pipeline.

What happens if Fox runs with the Republican playbook of “What if we don’t?” A person failing to pay could have their wages garnished, but what happens if a corporation doesn’t pay a judgment?
