Man, that article keeps calling her and the other guy a “soldier”. She won’t be happy about that! Salon is probably getting a flood of emails from Marines correcting them. It also refers to the “Marine Corps. Ball” with a period as if “Corps” were an abbreviation.
Yes, and yes. Including those prettyprettypretty white gloves. I’ll be attending the DC ball and am certainly looking forward to a room filled with dress-uniformed Marines. 
Not really looking forward to sharing the room with Justin Timberlake, though.

Geez, so many cynics. The Romantic in me really wants to believe that Sarge just thought she was hot and really wanted to try this. She is up and coming as well as hot, so it’s not impossible that she’s caught the eye of more than a few Marines.
Hope Justin Timberlake takes the lady Marine up on her date offer. 
The other Marine has been in Afghanistan for awhile. I doubt he knew anything about a new Mila movie. He’s a guy that has an eye for a pretty lady. I’m glad she’s being a good sport and attending the ball. Any publicity she gets out of it is a nice bonus.
Yeah, the invite acceptance happens right before the movie premieres. And the Marine Corps Ball happens in November, around the time she’s filming two movies. Seems pretty likely that they’ll ride the good publicity for awhile, and quietly announce “scheduling conflicts” closer to the date.
I’m a cynic too. I say this is exactly what will happen.
I don’t think it’s cynical to say so, just realistic. She was put in a position where she would have looked like a jerk to outright say “no”, and there is a legitimate scheduling conflict. She does actually seem like a sweetheart, I don’t think she’s looking for the publicity or to be a jerk, but it’s unrealistic.
What about the next Marine who asks her? And after that?

If I were her, I’d say something like “Haha… I don’t think my agent would appreciate it if I spent every weekend on a date instead of working but Scott’s request was so original, I’m happy to say yes. No promises for anyone else!”
Light-hearted, realistic and makes clear that she’s not available for reservations by anyone with a YouTube account.
I see no reason to doubt that she’ll follow through with it (edit: if she’s able – was posting when the post above mine came up) . It’s one night for a good cause. She’s still a human being and human beings can actually, sincerely, want to brighten another human being’s day with a nice gesture. I say kudos to her.
Which leads to “Mila Kunis said she couldn’t go on a date with me because she was ‘too busy working’, then was photographed having dinner with friends!”.
Again I feel bad for the girl, she’s not as much of a tabloid target as other actresses but I’m sure she faces enough danger/annoyance from the gossip sites and paparazzi. This just becomes another type of story the tabloids can run nasty stories about, no matter what she does. Not being a media whore like a Hilton or Kardashian, I don’t think she was looking for extra attention.
So Meg may actually be in a position to turn down a guy?
Date’s still on. There was some confusion as Mila checked her shooting schedule.
There’s several months for them to work it out. A private plane can get her out there and back in only a few hours. Cinderella will be back on the movie set before she turns into a pumpkin.
Make that two Marines with celebrity dates. 
Justin Timberlake accepted Cpl. Kelsey De Santis invitation to the Marine Corp Ball. De Santis is the only woman serving at the Martial Arts Center for Excellence at Marine Corps Base Quantico.
Given her specialty in the Corp, I’d guarantee Justin will be the ultimate gentleman. 
I hope she dances as well as she can karate kick.

All kidding aside, I’ve heard this event is really something special. The Marines know how to put on one heck of a show. Youtube has some clips of the ceremony and I got chills just looking at them. There’s a lot of tradition and pride in the Corp. No one can even get into this ceremony unless they are an Active Duty or Retired Marine and a date they bring.
