This new site sucks!

That did not help with me, I kept getting them anyway. I had to click on an unsubscribe link in one of the emails.

Thanks, finally got it. If I didn’t feel dumb before, I sure feel dumb now. :mask:

Glad it’s working for you!

I think that’s what I wound up doing, too, right after the changeover.

This still blows. The slide bar takes up a quarter of the screen. So the space for posts gets shrunk necessitating more scrolling. The ‘latest’ on the category page takes up half the page and don’t me started on all the poster icons muddying up the topic page.

@Typo_Negative, try the Sam’ Simple theme. The categories page is more useful and doesn’t have all the poster icons. However it doesn’t (yet anyway, last I looked) have the mouse-over previews.

They feel condescending. And getting useless notifications is a little distracting. And when you are new, and everything you do earn you a NEW BADGE it can be a lot distracting.

But you get past that point fairly quickly, and then they are only a little distracting and easy to ignore.

Whoever designed this deserves to be fucked with a burned stick.

It ain’t so bad. I dumb as a box of rocks about tech and I’m only mildly pissed occasionally.
You folks are so smart it shouldn’t be this hard.

Go slow, make a few boo-boos
edit or live with it and move on.

The @GreysonCarlisle tutorial is excellent.

I havn’t exactly read it but I hear it’s good :relaxed:

Me too, me too. I’m a devotee, top that shit, right there.

Umm, I mean , you too can achieve my high status if you work hard and apply yourselves.

How do I get to the last page of, say, this 190+post thread (that I havent read yet)?

ETA: Other than, of course, continuing on from this post.

There is no paging here, only scroll.
You should be taken to the last post you read.

The scroll bar to the right of the posts, pull it will the mouse to the bottom and you’re at the last post.

There is a simple way. See what the number of the last post is. Then, in the address bar, add (by typing) slash and the number of the last post. For example, this thread (or topic) shows this in the address bar:
h t t p s : / / b o a r d s . s t r a i g h t d o p e . c o m / t / t h i s - n e w - s i t e - s u c k s / 8 5 5 9 1 6
To get to page 193 (which is the last page right now) I should add /193 and get
b o a r d s . s t r a i g h t d o p e . c o m / t / t h i s - n e w - s i t e - s u c k s / 8 5 5 9 1 6 / 1 9 3
Do this and press enter. You will instantly find yourself at the last post. I do this all the time.

ETA: I added space between the characters of the link so that you can actually see it.

Click on the post and hit the ‘end’ key has always worked for me. There was another poster who said it took them partway - but not all the way - down. But I’ve never had a problem with it. The other techniques mentioned above work too, if that doesn’t for some reason. Also, ‘Home’ always goes to the top.

To be clear, you mean post 193.

I don’t know why I said page. :man_shrugging:

Discourse Classic now spans the width of the screen, with the scroll bar hugging the right edge. And you can mouseover a thread title. Still too many avatars, though. Sam’s Simple is the only one I tried that removed those.

Not for me. Same proportions as SD Light. There’s still considerable empty space on both sides.
I’d like for the row of avatars to be eliminated also. They’re too small to see most of 'em, there’s a lot of posters with the generic initial and no one cares who the most frequent posters are. Just list the OP and be done with it.

The easiest way is to press the # key (jump to post number) and then enter 999 or a large number. It will take you to the last post in the thread.

It will also show you the exact number of posts in thread, but it’s quicker to type 999 or something larger than the number of the last post.
