Saw this in the Milwaukee Urinal/Shitnal death notices yesterday. Wonder if this was his idea. Notice that one of his listed traits is that of humorist.
I was reading the obit (not realizing that the page wasn’t fully loaded) and thinking, “Yah, so what?” Then the picture came up.
Always leave 'em laughing!
James was quite the ladies’ man!
I thought that, too! See, gentlemen, make a lady laugh and you’re halfway to winning her heart.
I bet he was fun to know. I love the picture.
Yes, that picture made me smile (which I imagine was his intent - at his age, it seems safe to assume he knew he didn’t have much time left and probably had some say in the obit). The world is probably a bit less interesting without a character like that around anymore.
I wonder what’s up with the opposite-sex names in parentheses? Like these:
I’m pretty sure those are the spouses.
I have a coupla records, one each from George Burns and Groucho Marx as old men. One of them, Groucho I think, said he went down to the New York Times to look around. They showed him his obit, already written. He offered to punch it up a little, but they weren’t interested.
In-laws.
I write obits for a living. When I write an obit I use AP style, which is “Sister and brother-in-law Jane and Jack Johnson,” but less-formal and paid (which this looks to be) obituaries, the family has a lot more say in, and a lot of obits come to be to be re-written, as “Sister Jane (Jack) Johnson.”
Great pic, though. I wonder if my paper would run an obit picture like that? I must find out.

What a wonderful sense of humor.
Puzzling though is the ad at the top for funeral home Informed Choice. Their tag line is “We offer you more for your loved ones.”
Well good, because I was going to sell them to the highest bidder.
I must not have been the only one to find the pic amusing. They did an entire article on it in todays paper.
That is the best obit EVER. I love reading obituaries (we had a thread about it not long ago) and seeing this one just made my obit-reading year!
Rest in peace, Mr. Schinneller. You made a lot of people smile today.
That was an awsome article. I always like it when one of our reporters does an expanded story on an obit - I only get a little glimpse into these people’s lives, writing their obituaries, and I like finding out what they were like.
That guy sounded awsome. I knew someone a lot like that once - to bad he’s passed on, as well.

I always thought that they should have hack license pictures look like that.
From the article:
How could anyone not love that?!! Not to mention, at 38 I’d still be thrilled if someone would wake me up in the middle of the night to go hunt candy bars tied to tree limbs.
RIP sir. I’m sure the back of your head (and all the good stuff inside) was very beloved by all who were blessed to make your acquaintance. Us too.
He sounds like a really fun guy to have in the family.
