oh, man…Do I ever second THAT emotion! I KNOW it’s hard, but PLEASE DNFTT!

I realize it is very “elementary” in design but gets the point across!
If only it was that easy!
Every zoo I’ve ever visited has had “don’t feed” signs, but there’s always a few who throw marshmallows to the bears.
What this country needs is an effective troll filter.

I sold my soul to Satan for a dollar. I got it in the mail.
Sorry but I am pushing this to the top in hopes that people see it and read it…it must be in the water!

Just a Public Service Announcement from techchick…hey I don’t get paid for this and hey I have been up all night and have the worst hiccups I have had in ages.
Up w/ye!
I just posted this in another thread, but it seems pertinent here, too…
In a bid for accuracy, I feel compelled to point out that by traditional usage, a ‘troll’ is the questionable message itself (derived from a fishing analogy - you toss out an intentionally inflamatory post and see who bites). A person who trolls is a troller. Of course today, the term has gotten confused with the more recent ‘troll as monster’ comparison.
By this definition, it would be better to say “Don’t Take the Bait” or some such rather than “Don’t Feed the Trolls”, although the basic sentiment is the same no matter how you interpret.
Does it really matter? Only if you have in interest in words themselvs, as I do. All in the spirit of fighting ignorance, of course.
Hey techchick, drink some water
Half the fun is watching to see who can’t resist. I must admit it’s getting better, but there is always one or two that just can’t let it go. They just gotta post. Take a look at the thread, Can I Be A Moderator, from a guy who just started posting, Mul had to just jump right in there. A troll is a troll is a troll is a troll.
I’ve learned that if someone says something unkind about me, I must live so that no one will believe it.
Right on, techchick!

Okay, a new troll asked “Where’s the strangest place you’ve ever done it?” I replied, “In your bed with your wife and your mother. And they both said I was better than you.”
If you’re gonna feed a troll, feed it poison.
When all else fails, ask Cecil.
Time to bump-and-grind this one back to the top!
Well, it is hard to resist sometimes.
It’s like seeing a guy siting spread eagle on the sidewalk with a sign next to him that says
“Go home all you dirty wetbacks!
Kick me in the groin, hard. I like it.”
Sometimes you just can’t resist letting 'em have it.
And once again, as far as trolls are concerned, my sig line says it all.
“Winners never quit and quitters never win, but those who never win and never quit are idiots.”
jab1 - some of them like poison.
Don’t Feed The Trolls!
Think of it this way: every time you respond to their thread - doesn’t matter if you’re calling them names, telling them to go away, leaving a blank post for a visible ignore, or any other negative response - you are still bumping their stupid thread to the top of the page, so everyone else has to see their name again. Then we not only have their stupid thread or threads taking up the prime real estate (most of us, I presume, start on page 1 at the top and work down for whatever time we have, and I rarely get to page 2), but we then spark a series of threads devoted to complaining about that troll, and that troll’s name pops up in dozens of other threads as an oblique reference as people vent in various ways, and the next thing you know practically every single thread had a reference to that one troll. He’s getting all that attention, no wonder he trolls.
So again, Do NOT Feed The Trolls. Ever.
Ignore their threads. Ignore their posts in other threads. If a newbie responds, email the newbie and tell them DNFTT. Tell them who the troll is, and why responding is bad.
And DNFTT.
(Do I seem bitter?)
