Slashdot http://slashdot.org is a message board of sorts and is FAR more fast-paced than this one. They have something like 700,000 (yes, that’s SEVEN HUNDRED THOUSAND) registered users(although they don’t have a “no socks” policy and a percentage of those are undoubtedly socks). I’d be kind of at a loss to guess how many posts per day the Slashdot page logs, but it’s in the double-digit thousands undoubtedly.
I can kind of see a “disagreement” on grounds of “eh, I’ve seen faster”, but still it doesn’t mean the SDMB isn’t fast in an objective sense.
I did consider e-mailing a mod and having them delete it as a “Crime Against Humanity.” But then I decided to simply stick my fingers in my ears, close my eyes and go “LALALALALALALALA!”
I have “ell oh are dee oh eff tee aitch ee are eye en gee ess” written out in English on a post it in spider-scrawl handwriting from not looking down. It looks creepy, like something written by an invisible hand in a misted-up mirror.
Cool.
You could be on a LAN with the server, it ain’t gonna make that habitrail wheel spin any faster.
To ze OP, this is hands down one of the finest message boards on the net. I started a thread once asking if anyone knew of its equal and although some come close nothing matches the SDMB in terms of wit, knowledge, humor, or sheer community spirit. You know you’ve hit the big time when Slashdot and Fark start linking to individual threads.
Actually, I know of one Yahoo Group which moves about as fast, but since it’s individual posts, not threads, I can’t keep up with it. It’s got a much smaller membership but its posts to members posts ratio is about 175:1 and its only about 3 years old. During the past year, it’s averaged 1820 posts per month.
I used to slashdot regularly, and there are a couple of other message boards I check out, but this one spoils me because the quality of the posts I see hear as well as the quantity. Also, if anything major’s going on in the world, chances are I’ll see it here first with fairly accurate information and good commentary to boot.
