Understand what I am trying to explain to you?
A huge person (of any color) accused of a crime resists arrest and is cuffed in a way that most people would ordinarily just comply with? Okay.
There are so many black men who are criminals so most cops are programmed to get defensive when they come across a black man who is over 6 feet tall and yelling
…and (allegedly) selling illegal cigarettes and not handing over his ID when asked and swatting away the officer’s hands when they reach over to cuff him.
To be clear, they weren’t randomly defensive, he made the first move. The officer that put him in the choke hold only did so after he broke free of at least one and possibly two officer’s holds (one behind for sure and possibly one in front). You mentioned that he put his hands up, but that was after he was in a choke hold and on his way down and I’m not even sure if that was an “I give up” sign or just where his hands happened to go as he was flailing about trying to get away.
Officer Chokehold may have been excessive, but Eric escalated it all by himself. If he was doing nothing at all wrong, it sucks that he’s getting arrested again for doing nothing, but if he was, in fact, doing something illegal and not ‘just sitting here’ than most of then at least some of the blame is on him.
Would you still have made the same OP if the video showed him selling cigarettes and Officer Chokehold tasered him instead (and he still died)? I’ll bet you would have.
They were automatically in attack mode because he was a big black men who was hostile. That’s why I always say if you are tall and black and being harrassed by police you have to be calm
I didn’t read the article you linked to in the OP because I didn’t want to register. I got my information from another online report of the incident. I didn’t see any video.
Did you skip the first few minutes of the video when all the cops were just standing there with their arms crossed, one even had a pen and paper out. They were just asking for his ID and HE was the one flipping out.
It doesn’t matter if you’re tall and black and tall and white you should always be calm when you’re being harassed by the police. In the intimidate sense, because they’ve been trained on how to put your face into the concrete very quickly and they’re much more concerned about getting home to their family then making sure you do and in the less intimidate sense because the more of a fight you put up the more the charges are going to stack up.
As they always say, don’t argue with the cops, argue with the judge.
And can we talk about why the commenter thinks the cops are arresting him for breaking up a fight?
