Given that the event happened Thursday, this is light speed (and the union is upset). While we, as a society, demand instant gratification, instant decisions often lead to bad decisions. I don’t think this is a bad decision, but I don’t think the officer got due process, and just because Garner didn’t get due process does not make it right.

They didn’t fire or discipline him, they’re simply modifying his assignment till it all (hopefully for him) clears investigation. Seems like a good policy for circumstances where a suspect has died.
Does he still receive his normal pay and benefits? If not than I think he’s got a legitimate complain, but you have to have an investigation and in the case of a death I don’t think it’s irresponsible to ask the officer to be on modified duty while it’s in progress.
Of course there’s the distinct possibility I’m missing something.
