This tuesday for Australians - Who will win?

I realise that it may be a little late at 11:40 on monday night, but I’m looking for some good tips.
Right now, my money’s on Diatribe on the nose, after that fabulous Crawford Cup performance. But I’ll also be spreading it around the field by betting each way on Bohemiath, Freemason, Yippyio and Brew. Last year I won $75 off a $30 bet and I’m hoping to up that a bit by betting a $50 across the spread.

Either way, I’ll be happily drunk at my local pubtab.

I don’t think Scotland have any chance, even with Horan out…

For some reason, I thought you were looking for Australian opinions on the Tuesday US elections.

Anyway, what sport are you talking about here?

The Melbourne Cup. Much more important.

I dunno. I looked at the pictures in the Australian but made no decisions.

It’s about the only time of year I miss being a public servant… although probably now they don’t go and get extremely pissed at the pub at lunch time.

If Aussie horseracing is anything like Aussie cricket, the smart money is on whoever the jockeys and trainers bet on

Yeah, after today I could almost believe that.

If I had followed my plan as specified in the OP I would have about $130.

Brew come in from the outside at 20-1. I almost bet on him too. I was pissed (drunk, for the merkins) and went up to place my bets. I put $10 each way on the two favourites (Diatribe and Freemason) and was looking down the list and saw “Brew” I though “brew = beer. heh heh heh” and almost put down another 10 each way for him, but then a small level of sobriety kicked in and said “no, choose something with better odds”. Last time I listen to sobriety…

I chose Yippyio instead, which came in 2nd. I bet $60 and walked away with $25. If I’d had just one more beer I would have had nearly $250. Such is life…

Anyway, last year I came out $75 ahead, and it’s really the only time I bet on the horses, so I don’t really care. Next year I’ll do better.

I suppose I should say something about an Australian opinion on the US elections, since I deliberately made the subject heading ambiguous to lure you in.

I’m going to a US election Piss-up tomorrow night at a friend’s house. Basically, you’re split into 2 teams. one democrats and the other republican. As each state is decided, that team has to drink and the winning team gets a slab of beer. Apparently. I’ve got no idea how the american voting system works but knowing my mate Anthony he’s prolly either pinched the idea or got it all wrong.
