I was riding my bicycle from the Canadian border to southern California in 1982 with an ex boyfriend. We had a lot of time for the trip and took alot of side trips.
Everywhere on the coast , we ran into Sanyassans (ph) who were on their way to Antelope. They wore mostly red, were mostly foreigners, and were easy to spot. They were also very friendly and invited us to go with them. The ex- boyfriend wanted to go, but the red-people gave me the creeps. I remember the red-people we met seemed to always be making out and said the red they wore was ‘the color of passion’. I told the ex that he could go and stay a few days, then meet me on the other side and we would continue the ride but that I wasn’t going there myself.
En route, we discovered you needed $300.00 a person to get in. The ex didn’t have the money and I wouldn’t loan it to him so we wound up passing on that part of the trip, but it was one of the factors in my decision to dump the poor guy at the end of the ride!
