It’s a non-issue. Remember that what you linked to was World Net Daily, a news source barely on par with Fox.
Translation: A bunch of nutters (in this case Christian) put up a website claiming all kinds of shite. They will try to get wonky laws passed, and they will fail. Next week they’ll do something different, but equally as insane. End of story.
Well thank god I won’t have to change my “Location:”
Now come on, that’s funny.
Independence
. . .
Profit
What a fruitcake. If he comes to town I’ll look for him holding a sign or something downtown and get a picture for you guys. They should all fit in the picture:
Do these people go to schools that don’t teach American history or something?
People who try and succeed from the Union historically have a fairly poor track record.
Meh. Let 'em get their way. More freedom for the rest of us that way.
But why can’t they take one of the cold states? Why can’t North Dakota become the new Assholia?
Considering the subject matter, I wouldn’t expect to find it discussed anywhere *but * WND. This blurb on storyhunters.com is the only other recent link I could google.
While not the most traditional pit fodder, I figured it might bring some entertainment to the locals.
Loony is right.
I don’t recall the part in Genesis where Eve took Adam’s hand in a solemn vow of Holy Matrimony.
But the initial goal as stated- getting 50,000 adherents to move to a single state in order to effect change in the political climate isn’t too far out there. The Libertarian Party is currently trying the same thing. I think, not so long ago, they reached the goal of 50,000 persons committed to make the move and selected New Hampshire as the state. Haven’t heard much about since then. This thing was the brainchild of some fairly young guy as I recall, too. He was in his early twenties, I think. Can’t remember his name, tho’.
Heh heh heh. People who try to secede from the Union historically do not succeed.
Why South Carolina? C’mon. Wyoming’s the obvious choice: sparsely populated, largely ignored, and easily fenced off thanks to the handy-dandy rectangular shape.
Hell, let 'em all move to one place. It’ll make keeping track of them that much easier.
And this:
Oh c’mon! With one of their own in the White House they are referring to now as, “the most desparate of times,”? I mean it’s not like the One World Order is in place yet, with babies being aborted all over the place and Catholics running the show. That’s not even scheduled to happen for another decade, fer chrissakes.
Nutters, indeed! Kinda hard to create a nation without infrastructure, and kinda hard to finance infrastructure w/o taxes.
I dunno, it’ll be kinda fun to watch and see if they’re any more succesful than the Libertarians. Wonder if Vegas has a line on either of these things working?
Waste
Charleston is a beautful city, and doesn’t deserve that. If we can keep Charleston, the nutjobs can have the rest.
I can just hear myself saying it now: “If you hate this country so much, why don’t you just move to Fundistan?”
Oh, they’ll have taxes; they just won’t be wasted on the sorts of things Christians don’t stand for, like feeding the poor and healing the sick.
Here it is. http://freestateproject.org/index.jsp
I had a number of details wrong. Apparently they aren’t affiliated with the Libertarian Party as such:
I guess they expect this thing to evolve and crawl outta some swamp entirely on its own.
And they’re looking for only 20,000 people; 5674 have pledged to date.
Why South Carolina? They’re just up to they’re old tricks, again, the rascals. Wyoming’s a good kid. Quiet, but good.
Wanna bet that this new nation’s Constitution will have an amendment to ban the teaching of evolution in the top five?
Amendment? Nah, it’ll be in the original document.
What LeeshaJoy said. Besides, I would be willing to bet that they wouldn’t feel the need to amend what they consider a perfect document from the go.
And UB: While the gang of 5K+ may say that they’re not affiliated with any party, they have been any number of places claiming that Libertarianism is just the keenest thing ever and that they want to create a Libertarian test bed.
Waste
They don’t go to schools that teach American history, I don’t go to schools that teach correct word usage. It’s a lose-lose.
On the bright side, if they pull this off, I think that means we get to shoot 'em.
Hmm- Let’s see what that might entail.

I assume this is another one of those parody sites?
