My thinking is, anything that keeps these assholes far away from me is a very, very good thing.

No idea as to authenticity of the site, though others are certainly crying “spoof!”.

Google News only listed the WND and storyhunters links. Further googling yields more, happy hunting.

I’ve never used/seen it before, but this site claims to be an “website popularity index” and lists 20 or so other links from the past two days.

Does this remind anybody else of that episode of Family Guy, where the Griffins’ property is not part of the United States?

Well, it sounds like they’ll actually all fit into one Maurice’s Barbeque, and we can torch the whole thing and good riddance.

Honestly, you’d think of all places people here would know that secession is a bad idea.

Sounds like a good balance. After all, within these borders there’s been a sovereign African kingom, replete with its own kang for some time.

Despite being a firm atheist who has plenty of troubles with fundamentalist Christianity as it is practiced in the United States, i think that you are painting with far too broad a brush here.

Plenty of Christians are, in fact, deeply concerned about the poor and the sick. Some believe that the best way to help them is through charity, while others believe that a social democratic progressive taxation system is the appropriate means of distributing aid.

Despite the fact that many of the main Christian denominations, and especially their leaders, can often end up looking pretty uncaring on the 6 o’clock news, there are heaps of Christians in this country and around the world who take very seriously their commitment to the underprivileged. Some even go so far as to defy their church’s leaders in pursuit of such goals–one example that pops to mind is Catholic groups that profess the so-called Option for the Poor.

mhendo–I was being glib, since it’s a pit thread and all.

I am well aware of the role of religious charities, and that many conservatives feel that this would be a superior option to governmental assistance. I don’t agree, because I am less than confident that the funds raised through voluntary charity would be sufficient to meet the need, or would be adequately distributed, and because I feel that someone’s access to assistance should not be totally dependent on his religion or his willingness to be preached to. (The church I went to growing up did a lot of charity work in the community, but the actual charity always seemed secondary to the goal of getting people to church and to the Lord. They wouldn’t have denied this. Just my experience.)

Maybe if Fundistan is a success, we’ll get to see which approach works better.

Let’s not hijack this any further. Let’s get back to making fun of the secessionist fundie lunatics.

Fuck it. I say we be generous and outright hand 'em a nice, huge chunk of land with which to do as they please…somewhere south of Barrow and north of Fairbanks.

BUT IT PUTS THEM NEXT TO MEEEEEEE!!!

Fuck.

:frowning: sniff Why doesn’t Captianlikeme? Sniff :frowning:

Hell, I update my page more frequently than that. If they can’t even take care of the web page…
:stuck_out_tongue:

This guy lives in South Carolina?

Fair enough.

I agree with you here. Furthermore, i feel that any religious or religiously-affiliated group receiving government support for its charitable work should refrain completely from proselytizing in the course of any charity work being supported with public funds.

Fine with me.

The fundamental (heh) flaw in it (well, one fundamental (heh heh) flaw, among the many dozens) is that once these thousands of people move to North Carolina they believe they are going to unanimously agree how their theocracy should run and what it should look like. Once things don’t go the way of one group’s particular religious vision of paradise, they’ll have no one but each other to call godless heathens. I can see them growing increasingly fractious, each side saying the other doesn’t respect the true authority of the bible and constitution, i.e. their interpretation, and not being any happier there than they are now.

I’m still leaning towards thinking it’s a joke, though. It’s a little too loony, even for loonies.

Aw sweetums, I like you…I just don’t like him points. He’s a stupid jerk.

I am sorry you have to live in South Assholia.

Care to elaborate? :dubious:

Well, if my dream…er, this thing happens…I am sure it won’t be sunshine and lollypops for those residents not in the cul- I mean-group.

No, Bruce’s Father, I am not calling you an asshole. I just hope you can escape in time. Or…are you one of them? :dubious:

Well, to be fair, Peter did invade the USA.

They’re based in Tyler. That’s right up the road from me. I’m not at all surprised. This region is also the base of some kind of religious loon who reads all the textbooks and protests loudly if they have anything that’s not a Christian teaching in 'em.

Sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows
Everything that’s wonderful is what I feel when we’re together
Brighter than a lucky penny
When you’re near the rain goes, disappears, and I feel fine
Just to know that you are mine

Damn you captaindoesnotlikeyou, I’ll be singing that all night.
