This year's Halloween costume

I wore a big bulky deSitter-space embedding diagram made of dowels and twine, and hung a bunch of pipe-cleaner vacuum Feynman diagrams from the framework. Oh, and I was also wearing my “What is the speed of dark?” sweatshirt. Not the most elegant costume I’ve done, but another grad student had challenged me to come up with a way to do it, and I couldn’t back down from that.

My grandmother always said eating watermelon seeds made you pregnant…

I keep meaning to see if I can get my sister to send a lab coat and surgical gloves so I can answer the door as an unkempt mad scientist. Probably would be pointless now judging by the complete lack of trick-or-treaters last year.

I really want to dress up with 12 year old developemntally disabled daughter and both of us be Viking wenches.

I am also trying to talk 16 year-old son into dressing like RJ Berger from the tv show, because he kind of resembles the character already…I’m thinking of getting the burgandy/gold/white oversized basketball uniform and put lettering for the fictional school’s name on the front…

Anybody know how to do a Star Wars Rebel / New Republic officer’s uniform, preferably without any trips to a Halloween costume store?

Some time I really want to make a real life version of this, and we have some pastel-ish house paint left over from painting our bathrooms. We’ll see.

So we are going traditional for my daughter. She is a witch. I made her an underskirt and jacket out of a black material that seems to be a lace with all the holes filled in. I made a petticoat of seven layers of netting topped by a metallic purple net overskirt. The jacket has poufy flared sleeves. I made the hat out of the same black material as the underskirt and jacket. She wore it to the Halloween fun fair and there were many positive comments, but nothing like the last year.

Now to make a costume for my son.

I’ve decided to go with a Naboo costume. The turban should be interesting.

My daughter has her heart set on this version of Alice in Wonderland. She is helping me make it, but neither of us sew very well, so it will be a challenge.
