I’m trying to duplicate a fellow Doper’s costume of Tippi Hedren from “The Birds” (not having much luck finding fake birds, though - go figure!). Jim is planning on dressing up as Captain Kirk, TOS - the green, fancy uniform.
So, what are y’all doing for Halloween this year? What are you dressing up as? (And I don’t want to hear you’re not dressing up - that’s quitter talk!)
Waldo (of Where’s Waldo fame.)
Fry (from Futurama)
Spike (from Buffy.)
An ‘old-timey swimmer dude.’ I want to grow out a handlebar mustache and get one of those turn of the century style men’s bathing suits. But I have no idea where to find one of those, even a replica.
I haven’t had any great ideas yet this year. These are the only ones that I will consider:
The Beatles, dressed like on the Sgt. Pepper’s Cover - NO idea how to pull this off…advice?
The Upright Citizens Brigade - Probably not too hard to pull off
Hm, those are the only ones I can remember. If I think of more, I’ll come back. Obviously, I plan on doing these with a few of my friends.
OK, I am sooo excited about Halloween this year and not just because it is my one year wedding anniversary (the 29th but close enough dammit). Medusa was the first idea but that was quickly put aside in favor of Hel, Norse goddess of the underworld. I am making the dress that is about two-thirds of the way down this page. My theatre friend is going to help me with the make-up on the half of my body which is supposed to be rotting flesh.
I am going to dye half my hair black and leave the other half blonde. The black may not come out but it is a risk I am willing to take.
No one will know who I am but the costume will still be cool as shit.
In keeping with my ongoing movie/TV theme, I’m copying Keira Knightly’s pirate outfit from PotC2. Not very original, I know. Shame on me. But at least this year’s costume won’t require dieting – last year’s pictures made me cringe!
My other costume ideas included:[ul]
[li]Edward Elric from FullMetal Alchemist (the automail was way too much work for a costume that few people, if any, would get)[/li][li]Kaylee from Firefly (not costumey enough for those unfamiiar with the series).[/li][li]The Victorian-era Zombie costume from the 2006 season of So You Think You Can Dance (I don’t have enough time to make this costume – but I know what I’m doing next year! :D)[/ul][/li]
One of the quads in my office has already decorated for Halloween, and that’s spurred some of my coworkers to start thinking about costumes. The three ladies in that quad are dressing as goth fairies. An editor in my quad said he has a fantastic idea for a costume, but he’s not sure if he can pull it off. He won’t tell me what it is, of course, at least not yet. I promised to e-mail him links to costume sites.
If I though it would be at all possible I would be Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer, the Hammerfall guy, or some version of Ed Hunter. As it is I’ll probably just cover my face with black camo-like makeup, put on my black shirt, black tie, black jacket, black pants, black sun glasses, black gloves, and black top hat. And maybe carry around a black dagger or something.
Edward Scissorhands. Because I already have the hair, so all I need is some thick white foundation, black clothes, and some pointy objects sellotaped to my fingers.
A detective (many possibilities, from Sherlock Holmes to Nancy Drew- but I’d have to be very creative to be recognizable as Nancy Drew and I don’t want to be Sherlock.)
A cop
A cat burglar (burglar costume with cat ears and tail)
I’ll be theDavis Wiki this year. I’ll put on a white shirt with some sharpies attached so people can write on me. I was planning to keep this from being too tacky by
Putting the logo on my face, so I feel dressed up
Wearing a long sleeved black shirt underneath, so I don’t get my skin or bra marker-stained
Pre-writing an entry across my chest, so no one tries to draw on my boobs.
I am so not feeling creative this year. I like to do unified costumes with the kids (or at least the baby - the older one isn’t so interested in dressing up with Mom any more), but we’re all drawing blanks this year. Last year she was a Queen Bee (with a crown) and I was a worker bee (with a toolbelt and a jar of honey).
I thought maybe the baby and I might go as pirates this year. WhyBaby can be Red Handed Jill (Wendy’s alter-ego, of course) and I could be a generic Pirate Lass.
But I just know EVERYONE is going to do pirate this year, and I want to be a bit more creative than that. Any ideas? She’s a just-toddler, so this will be the first trick-or-treating for her.
bouv, I saw a lady’s old-time swimsuit costume in my recent travels. I’ll see if I can find that site again and see if they have men’s, too.
Thanks for the bird links. I’m thinking about being a lady boxer now. Or maybe a leopard lady.
I think some year I’m going to dress up as Cecil Adams. I’m not sure how yet; maybe use my faceless mask that I used for my Grim Reaper costume one year, and a shirt with the name Cecil Adams on it. Hardly anyone would get it, but that doesn’t really matter.
