Indeed I did.
Wow - really? Cool. I look forward to the “official” announcement.
If correct, they got one write. He’s brilliant. “Disgrace” by him - which won the Booker prize for 1999 - is the best book I have read in about 10 years.
What was your source of info? It’s not on MSNBC or other websites yet…
Woohoo! high fives all around
“Got one write” - eesh, didn’t even mean to be punny…:smack:
I listened to the official announcement on the radio.
Its all over the net.
Just gotta’ know where to look =)
Curses! I was holding out for Janet Frame (she was being tipped to win earlier today)
Now I shall have to go out and read Disgrace, tho’ I think I’ve read it before… It’s not the one where the university professor winds up staying with his daughter, who is a… vet? possibly. If it the one I’m thinking of, he’s well deserving of it, I remember it being a fantastic book.
As an aside, how do they pick Nobel prize winners. Is it by committee, or some sort of vote or what?
And Google is my friend. It is indeed the same book, and an excellent book it is too.
Great - thanks for the links.
Wow - I have never heard of Janet Frame - guess I should check her out…
I am consistently amazed that Philip Roth is not at the top of the list - he has written so many critically acclaimed books, and has stayed at the top of his game well into his 60’s. I don’t particularly like his books myself, but can appreciate them and am stunned that he isn’t lauded more…
Heard this on the CBC around 8:15 this morning. Congratulations!
