Thor is stupid; let's throw rocks at him (spoilers about the movie)

Nabu (Fate) and Spectre are both likely to survive any initial attack. I’d give a head-to-head to Spectre even with the Surfer’s speed. Nabu is a maybe.

I’ll give you the Thunderbolt. The T-Bolt is more powerful, but limited by it’s owner.

Captain Marvel is often associated with the JSA. Given the disparity between upper strength and invulnerability levels between Marvel and DC, he also survives, and with the speed of Mercury he will lay a hurting on the Surfer.

Lastly, I was looking for instances of Surfer versus Gladiator, and either my google-fu is weak or they haven’t really gone mano a mano too many times (or both…likely both). Sure there is this, but how often have they fought? Was there a decisive victor?

They never really needed to given that the Surfer can just blast him with his kryptonite. Gladiator knows he is beaten. Great scan though and thanks for postimg as i was thinking about that scene.

CM isn’t beating anyone after being transmuted into a turnip. CM has been transmuted before and the Surfer is insanely durable (fighting in black holes durable). So either way Matvel isn’t as fast and isn’t a factor.

Current Fate is not PC Fate so is also getting leveled very quickly. Again he would also struggle with ghe speed. The Spectre…well it depends on what day of the week it is. Totally agree that Wrath of God Fate is destroying the Surfer but otherwise he really isn’t. Indeed, he has so many low end showings as to say he struggles with Black Adam.

And Surfer struggles with Warlock, whose own power level fluctuates with the day of the week. Let us be honest - comic books are not known for showing consistency of powers.

He pretty explicitly states it towards the end when he and Thor are fighting in the Bifrost chamber. I’m paraphrasing, but he says something like “I never wanted to be king, I just wanted father to think I was good enough to be.”

True but the Surfer’s high end feats are fair constant thus the high pedestal he is placed in by comic book geeks (myself included).

You missed the joke. Thor’s mother is the elder Goddess Gaea, spirit of the Earth. Mother Earth is his mom.

No word on what he gives her for mother’s day.

This basic idea isn’t original to the comics, by the way. Snorri Sturlson (I think) identifies Thor’s mother as the giantess Jord, a name that means “Earth.”

ETA: On the Thor-versus-Storm issue, I was expecting someone to comment that Ororo has more control; certainly she can whip a rainstorm confined to a specific small space, or even so small it only rains on one person, something Thor’s never done. I’d respond that Thor has so much more in his wheelhouse that he’s simply never had to bother with stuff like that. He puts the lie to the aphorism “When your only tool is a hammer, ever problem looks like a nail.”

I am still reading this thread. But most of the time, I have no idea what anyone is talking about.

Don’t worry. You’re too pretty to throw rocks at.

Awww, thanks.

I was actually thinking about this thread the other day while watching Sherlock, the lead character of which is not dumb at all, and certainly far too pretty to throw rocks at. O! Those blue eyes!

[clueless heterosexual male]

In what sense is Irene Adler the main character of Sherlock? Lara Pulver is v. pretty though.

A-ha, very funnny, though she was smoking hot - but of course I saw her through Sherlock’s eyes. I don’t know what it is for me and blue eyes, though - maybe it’s a hint of the exotic for me.

I understand that. Be careful though; we don’t want to confuse the white people.

:stuck_out_tongue: And aren’t they cute!

There are non-whites posting in this thread? Zeus above!

What would Heimdal and Hogun the Grim say?

“We’ve got, uh, Xena, Jackie Chan, and Robin Hood…”

Ha! He is totally about to teabag Namor in that picture.

And in fact I recall in the comic where his parentage was revealed, Gaea was referred to as “Jord”; that apparently being what the Asgardians called the Elder Goddess Gaea.

Actually, his eyes are light gray–but changeable. Do you find yourself working Sherlock into lots of conversations? I don’t blame you a bit…

Back to the not-so-bright hero. I grew up in The Silver Age; my brother mostly bought the comic books but I certainly read them all. However, my interests moved toward the comics done by Gilbert Shelton, S Clay Wilson & that gang. I’d always liked myth & legend, so I knew a bit about The Other Thor–from the legends inspired by those visiting aliens…

I hadn’t kept up with the latest superhero movies but, as a Whedon fan, I went to The Avengers–also my first 3-D film! Really enjoyed it, so I was glad to watch Thor when it turned on up Netflix streaming.

Thor was never noted for his brain, but he was brave & strong & a friend of humanity. Loki was much too bright & played the “wormtongue” role; the Norse & even the Irish knew of that troublemaking kind. Odin was powerful, yet scary & mysterious–no matter whose version you believe about how he lost that eye. (In myth & legend, it’s possible to believe several versions!)

I found the movie Thor quite in line with the other Thors. But I liked Loki more than I expected…

Yes, and I am totally trying to stop, I swear. I’m hooked through the nose but I’ll be good.
