Thor: Love and Thunder

So…definitely an Unreliable Narrator. :stuck_out_tongue:

They should use Love and Thunder to off Black Panther as TcHalla defends Bast.

This establishes Gorr’s bonafides, and sets up BP II, without the awkwardness of “Hey we got rid of Black Panther…now the real movie can start” if they were to do it in BP II.

Also getting killed by Gorr while defending your Goddess is a pretty boss way to go out.

How are they getting rid of Chadwick Boseman’s character in Black Panther 2? Have we heard yet?

We haven’t. I’ve run a million scenarios in my head and they are all kinda awkward. Anything more than the briefest of deep fakes and deleted scene splicing makes me cringe. Not to mention if we all go in not knowing, its going to be a pall everyone will feel

“How?? Will it be respectful? Cringey? Worthy??”

I feel the best idea is to just have whatever happened occur prior to the movie opening. Or maybe some kind of seriously stylistic animation as a tale told by Shuri.

Maybe the best idea is just to have him of passed and not tell us. Im glad we had the What If series to see him a last time.

I think his sister is going to be Black Panther. That’s my prediction.

In the comics he literally goes off into space in a Wakandan spaceship and “gets lost”, and Shuri eventually takes over as Black Panther. But in the comics Shuri’s got all sorts of other stuff going on too.

That could work

Or … maybe not.

They sort of did that in “What if…?” already though. They are going to have to write him out in a more permanent manner I think.

I’ll spoilerbox whether cancer is part of the movie or not.

It is, apparently. The BBFC has mentioned in their ratings that “A character’s terminal cancer is a theme of the movie; there are associated upsetting scenes.”

So, yes, I would guess at this point that Jane is dying at the start of the movie.

Saw it. A bit disappointed.

It seemed like every section was doing too much. It’s about the kids! And… Jane! And cancer! And Thor’s disassociation! And Christian B sword guy and scary shadow thingies! And those asshole gods who we blew up that didn’t really matter at all! And Korg getting blowed up, which also mattered not at all.

Ragnarok had flaws, but each scene had a purpose. In this, every scene had almost every purpose. Jesus, concentrate.

I mean, I enjoyed myself, but an hour in I was wondering how long this movie was going to go on.

It was fine. I thought they leaned to hard on attempted comedy - unaware Thor being accidentally funny seemed more organic in the other movies. Here they seemed to feel that they needed a comic moment every X minutes.

I really thought they’d wimp out and keep Jane alive - I like that they put her in Valhalla, which I guess gives them a chance to bring her (and Heimdahl/etc) back if they see the need.

I enjoyed it.

The start is a little rough but it figures itself out fairly quickly, as a movie.

I read a review of the first film which explained that Thor was just a boy who lost his hammer and the movie is a simple, unadorned tale of that boy trying to get his hammer back. Love & Thunder does the same, it keeps it simple. He likes to fight and he wants love. That’s all there is to it and if you go into the movie expecting more, you might be disappointed. But, personally, I think the Marvel movies are at their best keeping it simple.

My other takeaway was that the visuals were a lot better than Ragnarok. That one had a bit of a feeling of a stage show, with the actors always facing the camera, only ever moving stage left to stage right, not interacting with the scenery, lower quality special effects, etc. The movie here was up to max freedom of movement and interaction, with probably a 100% desktop wallpaper suitability rating on every frame of film.

I would not want the goats but the screaming goats were hilarious.

I liked it. Christian Bale did a great job as Gorr the God Butcher (and he had a great look) and the humor was fun. And someone clearly liked Guns N’ Roses songs.

I am one of the few who thought that Ragnarok was too silly. I liked it but everyone else loved it. This dialed up that silliness to 11 and was weaker for it. I didn’t hate it but it was movie everyone will forget about ten minutes after they leave the theater.

I enjoyed the movie, it definitely subverted my expectation that Thor would have convinced Gorr to wish for Jane to be cured. I do like how it ended, especially the princessy touches on the hammer. Very “Despicable Me,” which I also liked. What can I day, I have five daughters myself (and a granddaughter), and there’s definitely something about fathers with their little girls that gets me “right there.”

I was a bit disappointed that the post-credits scene wasn’t something comedic involving the goats.

With the mid-credits scene, I believe that Wonder Man is now the earliest-joining Avenger available to Marvel Studios since the beginning of the MCU (i.e., excluding Beast) to not appear on screen, though I understand he was supposed to sort-of appear in GotG2 and it was left on the cutting room floor. If we count that as an “appearance,” then I guess that distinction falls to Tigra, am I right? (Rick Jones, Moondragon and Jocasta were never truly members of the Avengers.) (Is it oinly me, or does the actor who was used for the mid-credits scene role look a bit too scrawny to be that character?

I had the same thought. But I only know him from Ted Lesso, so it’s kind of hard to imagine Roy Kent as Hercules… and Goldstein is apparently only 5’10" or so and not particularly muscular.

Maybe he’s just past his prime, like Zeus.

Presumably Brett Goldstein will bulk up if necessary for a later film.

I actually thought that the silliness, or perhaps the humor was on the whole dialed down this time around which surprised me. Unlike Ragnarok that started quite humorously, this one did not and there were more serious moments and downright spooky ones. I enjoyed it, but for me Ragnarok had a better overall feel to it.

Also, did anyone notice the inclusion of Moon Knight in the Marvel Logo? I don’t quite remember any of the other shows characters making appearances, but maybe I just did not catch them in the last few movies.

No, but I’m pretty sure I saw Ms. Marvel.
