THOR: Ragnarok- Seen It!!

He’ll need to collect the pieces, take them to Álfheimr and find the equivalent of Rivendell and get the Alf Smiths to reforge it. Another option is to bring it to the Svartálfar in Svartalfheim and make a deal with them to reforge it. Though that will be far more dangerous. Dark Elves (or Dark Dwarves) are tricky and prickly.

Do the Marvel comics include Frey? Are Álfheimr & Svartalfheim places in the Marvel Universe? Odin spoke of the 9 worlds so I am assuming so.

Actually another possibility might just be Doctor Strange.

Frey has appeared in the Thor book, though it sounds like his appearances have been very infrequent. It looks like he’s classified as an Asgardian in the books, which don’t seem to make a distinction between the Vanir and Aesir.

The Nine Worlds in the Marvel cosmology are:
Asgard
Midgard
Alfheim
Hel
Jotunheim
Muspelheim
Nidavellir
Svartalfheim
Vanaheim

In the comics, Mjolnir was created by a particular Dwarf smith named Eitri (which I think may be consistent with the original Norse myths), though there have been several variations of the hammer’s origin story told over the years.

Forgot to mention that I also loved the call-backs to the Avengers movie - Thor’s “He’s my brother!” to which Loki responded, “Adopted,” and Loki saying he knows how it feels when Hulk, in the arena, takes Thor by the feet and does that rag-doll slam thing.

Yeah, after Loki cut off Sif’s hair, he had to go to the sons of Ivaldi to get golden replacement hair made. They also made Skidbladnir, a collapsible ship for Freyr which always gets a favorable wind, and Gungnir, a spear for Odin which cannot be stopped. He then takes these treasures to Brokkr and Eitri and bets his head they cannot make gifts to match. Brokkr and Eitri craft Draupnir, a ring for Odin which drops eight copies of itself every nine nights; Gullinbursti, a golden boar that travels faster than any horse and glows in the night for Freyr and Mjolnir; the hammer for Thor. They win but, as they cannot remove Loki’s head without also taking some of his neck which was not included in the wager, they must settle for sewing his mouth shut.

Didn’t Cap try to pick it up in Age of Ultron? I think he got it to move, but couldn’t lift it. Vision picked it up without effort, though.

He did (although I don’t think anyone other than Thor caught that it moved slightly), which I think is a teaser for Cap eventually picking it up.

I agree, that great moment was somewhat ruined by Vision though. I hated that little bit with Vision. Actually I don’t really like Vision.

It was a little lame but it served a story purpose to confirm to the audience that the Vision really was a Good Guy.

Just saw Thor on Sunday and enjoyed it. On the outside of the Grand Master’s stadium there were giant faces - one of them was clearly the Hulk. Was another one of them Nebula?

Those were on “The Champion’s Tower.” The other faces I caught were Beta Ray Bill and Ares.

I just watched that recently - he’s obviously able to move it, but it isn’t clear whether Rogers can’t actually pick it up or if he stops himself once he realizes he can move it a bit when no one else could. Either way, Thor notices that the hammer moved and looks a little bit worried.

Saw Thor 3 over the weekend. It was fun, but the theater was empty. Is that just the way movies are now - basically one weekend events?

Thanks.

There were plenty of people at the theater when I saw it on Sunday (and a dozen showings that day, I think)

…and dead, in the MCU. At least, I’m assuming none made it past the events of Dark World.

If any did, I’d think they’d be extra prickly.

I also saw Man-Thing at the top, and I think, possibly, Fin Fang Foom at the bottom, don’t recognize Nebula. Pic.

Thanks. Must have been imagining Nebula in the brief glimpse I got during the movie. Ah well.

I think that looks like the Bi-Beast under Ares.

The consensus seems to be that the four faces are Ares, Beta Ray Bill, Man-Thing, and Bi-Beast.

Were those past champions of the Grandmaster’s arena? Hulk’s (now dead) predecessors as top fighter?

They Doug-ed Bill?
