What’s the story on the alleged rash of “airship” sightings in the late 19th/early 20th centuries? I’ve heard tales they were piloted by humans, and that they came to the earth to contact people. Is there any legitamite documentation for these occurences? Thanks.
I have no specific cites to give you, sorry. But I can say that the skeptics point out 19th century “airship” sightings as evidence that the UFO phenomenon is all in people’s heads. They note that medieval peoples saw dragons and angels in the sky, 19th century folk saw airships, and 20th century people saw alien spacecraft. In short, people reported sightings that match the preconceptions of what they expected to see.
Just to play devil’s advocate, another way to look at Lumpy’s post is that peoples at different times all saw similar phenomenom,but described it as best as they could. Medieval man sees something in the sky and he says - oh,must be a dragon. 19th century man sees soemthing in the sky, he says -dragons don’t exist,must be some sort of airship. UFO’s are just the modern day way of explaining the unexplained.
