Is it a “I’m eating Bugs/Daffy” thing for you?
Never tried rabbit. But duck is gooooood. All dark meat.
It’s a “vegetarian” thing for me.
Having said that, if I was lost in the woods and hadn’t eaten for 3 days then I wouldn’t have any qualms about killing and eating either a duck or a rabbit. For me, being vegetarian is more about a “taste” thing than a “principle” thing.
Duck is good, but it’s just got too many bones. I’ve never had rabbit, but just because of a lack of opportunity. I might pass on the opportunity if I’m in one of my “ewwww, that’s something I’ve never eaten before” picky eater phases, though–but not because of any “can’t eat Bugs Bunny” thing.
I could just never make up my mind, that’s all.
“Duck season!”
“Wabbit ttthhhhheason!”
“Duck season!”
“Wabbitt ttthhhheason!”
“Rabbit season!”
“Duck ttthhheeee…”
Bang.
See what I mean?
I’ve had duck and didn’t care for it much. Too…um…greasy?
I’ve never had rabbit more from lack of opportunity than any higher moral reason.
Your loving carnivore,
Ruby
My sister acquired a pet rabbit as a kid in an unusual way. My dad brought home a rabbit with the intention of fattening it up and eating it, but complaints from certain members of the family caused him to relent. So Hoppy became part of the household.
Things I’ve eaten:
Cat, dog, duck, pig, snake (rattlesnake, garter, and something undetermined but was kinda salty), squirrel, moose, elk, deer (venison), and the occasional crab from the Delaware Bay inlets.

Yes, I have eaten cat and dog.
Did you use peanut butter?
The duck I’ve tried has been quite chewy and way too fat tasting. Not at all to my liking. I’d try rabbit if the opportunity presented itself.
Venison, the few times I’ve tried it, has been really good. Dark and smoky. Quite tasty. You could name it Bambi and I’d still take a second plateful.
Fried aligator strips are good too. Taste like chicken.
Nope. Wasn’t around. . .
Actually, the cat was kinda gamey, and the dog was somewhat sweeter and stringier. I think it had something to do with how they were prepared.
Before I get flamed for this (like I care), this was a survival exercise where we could try different things. The rule of thumb is “six legs or less” and you can eat it (quote me on that!). And to be honest, if I bailed out of a downed aircraft over Afghanistan and living on the lam, I wouldn’t care what you called a pet - I’d call it dinner.

It’s all a matter of perception. And yes, I have seen the Peruvian dog Pit thread.
barbeque for the winter solstice tonight with all the relatives. No duck today but rabbit is gonna be on the grill in a few hours.
Tripler, I’m impressed. You’ve eaten cat and dog? I’ve had dog, but not cat. I liked the dog, it was seasoned well. It was by accident, I was told afterwards that it was dog.
I’ve also had duck, rabbit, deer, and squirrel. My dad tried to get me to eat skunk, but I just couldn’t do it. Yes, it can be done, but not by me, thank you very much.
Oo. We had this conversation at work tonight. . .
I’ve eaten rabbit, squirrel, turtle, deer, groundhog?(I think, I was pretty little when that came across the table,) chicken, pig, and cow.
Cows and pigs I’ve raised - and it never phased me to haul 'em off to the butcher shop. Cute when they’re little, tasty when they get big. Never looked at a deer as ‘Bambi’ either, but that’s not one of my favorite things to eat. Deer sausage and jerky is quite good, but I don’t really care for the rest of it.
How were they prepared?
Curious.
One of the very finest things I’ve ever tasted was a ballotine of rabbit stuffed with wild mushrooms, at Oliveto in Oakland.
I was 17 before I’d willingly eat rabbit. I had pet bunnies from about ages 8-12, so no, I wouldn’t eat it. My mom tricked me into eating rabbit and I was quite upset about that. Now, I don’t really care. A friend of mine (in his mid thirties) still won’t eat rabbit, “because he took care of the pet bunnies at school.” When eye rolling ensues, he asks “well, would you eat horse?” (I’m a horseperson) Sure. I wouldn’t eat MY horse, or a horse I knew, unless I was desperate, but I’m actually curious and would like to try horse. It seems to be a taboo meat here in the States though.
As far as duck, I’ve never had any cause not to eat it, and I tried it when I was ten or so. It’s too greasy though; I prefer chicken or turkey.
I like duck. Peking duck is the best.
As far as rabbit goes, I’ve never tried it. I haven’t had the opportunity to. As soon as the opportunity arrises though, I’m going to try.
I love duck in orange sauce and Peking duck, but I don’t think I’ve ever had rabbit.
When it comes to meat, I’ll try anything. Hell, you may call me sick, but I’d even try human meat once. Which is ironic considering I haven’t eaten half the meats mentioned here. The most unusal meats I’ve had are duck, lamb, and squid. The duck was excellent, the lamb was too, and the squid was kinda rubbery.
