Thoughtful and Humourous {Pointless Gendering of Products}

Pink legos aren’t labeled “for girls”. But being pink generally carries that message.

One thing I really lile is that Minecraft recently added cheery blossom trees, with pink wood and lots of flowers. It seems to me to be obviously for little girls (who play a lot of Minecraft) who want to build Barbie Dreamhouses and other pink things. The wonderful thing, though, is that near as i can tell, no one has explicitly labeled the pink wood as “for girls”, or treated it as pandering.

I’m not sure that’s a recent thing: cherry blossoms have shown up during their blooming season (April 1 - 10 in the Northern Hemisphere) even in previous games. But if they’re making them more available year-round, that would be nice.

I have long referred to all skin moisturizer products, however feminine or masculine their marketing, by the generic nickname “hide grease”. This has caused some bewilderment among people who catch sight of it on my shopping list. :laughing:

Its never been in vanilla minecraft, and this is a not just a biome, but a wood set. Its 100% pink legos, but no one has slapped “for girls” on it.

Here’s a hide grease you might try that will really spice up your shopping list:

Which of course has triggered competitors marketing similar products for hyoomans. UdderBalm Online - Happy Cow Moisturizing

Cyclists have been using various udder balms for years.

so, basically a cheaper form of this:

String musicians too. Not being in agriculture that’s the context where I first heard of udder balm.

Come to think of it, one of those celebrity-does-lighthearted-tour-meets-quirky-people TV programmes over here had a farmer’s wife in a remote bit of Scotland who, complimented on her complexion, owned up to using udder cream. There is a clip of it, but on Facebook (at about 3m 30s)

Why would string musicians need udder balm?

Harpists don’t want calloused fingers. They want soft supple fingers despite plucking at strings all day. Udder balm or other similar moisturizing creams supposedly help.

I don’t know about e.g. bass players.

I remembered reading this today, when I was in a urologist’s examination room to discuss the results of a recent MRI of my prostate (good news, no biopsy needed), and there, amid the industrial size tubes of lube, and the boxes of examination gloves, were multiple packages of Dude Wipes. Fortunately, I guess, I had no occasion to use any of them, but I have to admit I did wonder what they smelled like (before use, of course).

I play bass and have callouses on fingers of both hands. And, I use the best hand moisturizer ever (CeraVe). No amount of moisturizer will stop them from forming on my fingers. And, I don’t know that I wouldn’t want callouses. When I’ve taken breaks from playing bass or guitar, it can be painful to play until they reform.
